Ask Angie and Fabbers- Retro track pants - still current?

In February, Angie posted a wonderful post on retro track pants fringe trend. I love the pants and the styling with dressy blazer, coat, shoes and structured bag. I did not have any retro track pants then and thought that if a good pair comes my way, it would be fun. Didn’t want to invest a lot of money in one, though.
First now, I saw two really nice pairs on sale, a black one and a red one, and ordered online. They fit nicely and I love the shape.
However, I wonder if the trend from February is still trendy now and will still look current in the autumn.
What do you think? Keep or return?

Still trending - especially in the new indie American and UK brands built around streetwear looks. There was an interesting article on BofF yesterday about the rise of the street brands and capsule collections. btw - super interesting..

If you love them and they fit you I would consider getting them,trends tend to hang around for several years these days and any way I think that if you are a stylish woman like you that trends aren’t so important,personal style is more important.

ooh I’m intrigued Katerina! I’m sure you could make them work, even if their trendiness was declining. Sounds like it isnt though. In fact that particular trend hasn’t even arrived in Australia yet lol.

I have some and enjoy them very much as a fun alternative to jeans. I wear mine with high heeled booties, so I don’t look like I have come from the gym. My track pants are in finds.

ChrisM, I have not figured how to style them yet. I will post a picture later, when I have an idea. I think you should try different pairs. Mine are quite wide legged and have silver sort of buttons alongside the legs. But I have seen pairs which look more like trousers and less obvious.

I’m a fan of the look, mostly with dressier shoes ( not stilettos for me though), but the sneaker look could work with dressier top and blazer. I mostly have worn the slightly tapered or zip- hem style but think the wider or straight legs could now be more on- trend- no clue really!

I tend to hang onto a” trend” that works for me, if maybe I finally come across “ my” version, or size or color, which means I can’t be too worried about whether it’s “ over”, though I might google to find updated stylings and combinations.
Hence I’d be interested in other opinions on how to make the look somewhat fresh.

Thank you, Unframped. Like you, I also only pick up trends which work for my style and shape, and I am generally not too worried about the trendiness then. I love wide legged trousers and these track pants are very much like wide legged trousers. The stripe and buttons along the legs create a prolongating vertical line, which I like a lot. So in this sense, they feel perfect. Styling will be a bit of a challenge, though, for me.

As you suggested, I googled some styling tips and images and found quite a few from last year, involving stilettos, LoL. I will try with a lower heel pumps and maybe loafers and dressy sneakers. They looked also good with button down shirts with or without a blazer. Maybe a leather jacket?
