Ask Angie and forum: K/R White Chunky Sweater for Spring, M or L?

I had an idea what sort of sweater I wanted as my Spring wardrobe addition and playing with the whole fluid fit concept.

This one ticks most boxes - white, right neckline, chunky, cotton mix. I am however unsure about the fit. Below are Sizes L and M for your opinions, including "Oh no… it's not finished yet!" close-up, but you can get a better idea of the texture from the last photo.

Anything else I should pay attention to? I guess I need to try it with the jackets I plan to wear it with...

I like the more fluid fit of the large, but I'm not sure how it will work if you wear a jacket over.

I'm the worst myself and go back and forth, but here's my 2 cents and experience:

The sweater has a band-bottom, and though not a tight band, it's the rate-limiting step on whether the sweater behaves as boxy-sliding over skirt or hangs up.
So I make a distinction between longer fluid-banded-bottoms that I will wear sort of pulled down, or boxy styles I want to float over pencil skirt (or high-waisted flat-front pants ).
So for boxy I think you need the large or would need something cut more straight at the hem. I need this for my pear shape --if it fits to closely in shoulders it will not slide over hip line--whereas some rectangle types do not.

I sort of feel the sweater is rather short, and operating more like a top than a topper. In which case, I'd go with the M, if that makes any sense.

But I sorta think overall, 'keep looking.'

Unfrumped has some great observations. And I agree with the large conclusion that she comes to as a result.

With that said, I also agree with Rachy in saying that it seems a bit short, but that would look fantastic with a button down or some layering Ts. It really depends on how you are going to wear it .

Wow, not much to add to what Unfrumped said, but I third Rachy. My first thoughts when I saw it was that it was short. Not short enough to be cropped, but not long enough either. I would keep looking.

If you're going to wear the jumper with a skirt, I vote M all the way. Gorgeous.

Thanks everyone for chiming in, I'll check all comments in detail again when I feel more playful with my wardrobe.

Angie, I'm glad my compass is not totally off, I thought maybe M would be better (yes, with skirts, I think the proportions would be totally wrong with jeans with the sweater being so short) but today was just not the day for much else than grabbing this in two sizes most likely to be OK and seeing if something can be done with one of them... I'll play a bit more with it before I decide for sure.

I prefer the medium, the loose fit looks deliberate with this one, because the neckline and shoulders are right where they should be. With the large, they look 'off' to my eye.

I prefer the M as well. The L looks a bit sloppy, whereas M fits nicely but is still fluid. But can you wear it around the house a bit first? Cotton knits, especially in certain types of rib stitches (I can't really tell what the stitch is here) have the propensity to expand widthwise.

Well -- it depends on the purpose (I'm not helping already!) I like the length of the M to go with this skirt. I also like the general fit through the body. However, the sleeves compared with the length of the body is ridiculous!
I like the L if you are going to layer this over other things and use it more as a topper over jeans or shorts for a more casual look -- but it has ALOT of volume in the torso. I personally think you can do better but if you choose one it should be based on how you intend to use it.
