My parents are visiting me in April and we're planning a day trip to Paris. Now that we're going all the way there, I really want to go try on a pair of Doc Martens - the 14 eyelet boots. I'm thinking purple like Amy's (and Una's?).

But before I go try them and fall in love with these really expensive boots, I'm wondering, are they too edgy for my style? Or can I fit them into my smart casual looks?

Also, now that I'm asking about Docs - how's the sizing? I usually wear a French 39 or UK 6, but a half size (39.5) would be ideal. Do Docs come in half sizes? Did you size up or down when you got them?

And (last question!) will the 14 eyelet boots be okay for my 5'4'' height?
