I need some summer weight trousers for the summer and yesterday I saw these online:

I guess polka dot pattern just bought me...but I am not sure about them on me. I like wide leg trousers but those may be even wider - what is the difference between wide legs and palazzo trousers? Also I am not sure what else can be worn on top but black
and white?
What do you think? Do they worth a shot and drive on the other end of the city?

My daughter bought something similar from Urban Outfitters and I must say, I do like this type of pant a lot. Your height and panache should be more than enough to pull them off. I would give them a shot.
As far as colors for tops, I think that pattern is a neutral. It goes with everything: Brights, pastels, black, white, jean and chambray etc.

Orange! Red! Fuchsia! Teal! Denim! Also, yellow, green, blue... well, EVERYTHING, right? since it's a neutral and all?

And those would be fabulous with some animal prints in black-&-white on top (like the zebra stripes you were planning for your closet!) or a floral print (something like Natalie's floral pants from her thread today).

Not Angie, of course, but I always thought palazzo pants are the ones in a drapey fabric and really wide-flared, so that they tend to form vertical folds, like in photo #2 (they are therefore wider than some other wide legs, which can also be in stiffer fabrics like denim or linen).

I agree with Zapotee. Polka dots are a neutral pattern. Almost everything can go with it. Those are really cute pants! You would look lovely in them with your height.

Thanks ladies. I did wear palazzo trousers prior to YLF (when I was hiding my curves and looking back they were frumpy on me but I hope it was the wrong styling more than the style of trousers.
Maybe i will go to the store and take a picture...

Personally, I think you have to be very careful that these types of pants don't look like pajamas. They are palazzos, actually. I am not overly fond of them I am afraid

Sveta, I prefer wide leg trousers with structure. Have you tried the Editors from Express in tall? If you were my client - we would get you into those first.

I have not tried Editors from Express: we don't have them in Canada yet. I have looked at Editors trousers on their site but they all look like fitted through the thigh and I am afraid this is the worst trouser type for me. I don't see any wide leg styles...
Maybe I can visit their store in Chicago next week?

I think these are worth checking out. If they flatter you, you'll have one versatile pair of trousers on your hands. You could go for some advanced pattern mixing or just wear them with solids. Off the top of my head I think red, yellow, and bright pinks would look amazing paired with those pants.

So sad Angie gave these a nay but she knows what she is talking about.

The Editors are my go to pant and yes, they are supposed to fit like a bootcut / flare jean - not that tight of course. I love and have many incarnations of them. You buy them like jeans, they will stretch out quite soon after you wear them, so the initial fit should be on the snug side.

I wear 6 or 8 tall in the Editors.

Unfortunately, they do not carry tall sizes in stores, at least not in NYC. Perhaps you could order them to ship to one of the fabulous Chicago ladies and return to the store, if they don't work out.

Sveta, the Editors are MUCH wider thank you think (so much so that I can't wear them because they overwhelm my frame - I wear the Columnist from Express). I had them on a pear shaped lass yesterday and they were so rocking fabulous that she bought two pairs. Try them. The slanted pockets and thick fabrication are excellent. Try them a size up too. They run true to size, but with some clients I size up on the Editors. Dress trousers should not fit like jeans.

Zap, great that you chimed in. Your body is not dissimilar to Sveta's and you're tall. Nice validation.

I am glad that your client gave them a chance. I had such a hard time finding pants a couple years back, when I just found YLF. I found the Editors and never looked back!

That's great, Zap! The Editors and the Columnist are truly fab finds. Their quality and fit are brilliant for the price. The fabric actually outshines a lot of the designer trousers I've seen all season. Big thumbs up from me! I can picture the Editors looking perfect on you :). I bet BR's Sloanes look great too.

I am quite annoyed with the sheerness of bottoms in designer collections at the moment. They seem to be taking the soft trend very seriously!

@ Angie: This is a complete side note and I'm sorry for the threadjack. I actually think that the Editors should not be bought as loose as the more classic trousers. I actually don't think that any of the more modern trousers are cut or designed that way anymore. That is perhaps why most women don't find the right pants, they might be buying them too big. IMO.

As far as the Editors, based on my experience. I don't think they are flattering if they are too big.The crotch area will sag and crease horribly. It actually forms some sort of butterfly. Plus they stretch a lot, I mean like a full size almost. Could I be wrong then?

Zap, I hear you and know exactly what you mean! At this point, I cannot generalize because so much depends on fabrication, fit and the curve of the body. The Editors are quite stretchy - and with some clients I've not gone up in size at all. To your point! That's why I suggested to Sveta that she try her regular size and one up. Personally, I think that many of the sagging crotches that we see on the streets are due to lack of alteration efforts. An adjustment on the waistband does wonders to solve that problem. Furthermore, some crotch creasing is inevitable if you have extra curvy thighs, or a larger abdomen. You just have to find the best possible solution and alter if need be. I hope that makes sense too

I know, the fabric is quote something for the price and if you get them on sale, they are a steal. They are actually running a special right now, a buy one get one 1/2 off on the Editors.
The BR sloans used to fit me well, not anymore. That's what I used to buy. BR Martins and Sloans. BR changed their cut: The talls are longer in the inseam and shorter overall.

Yeah, the Martin fit has changed :(. Such a bummer about the shorter inseam length on the talls too. :(. Yay for value driven Editors!

Angie, thanks for the quite detailed response. I see that they ship to Canada and the shipping cost is quite reasonable. Maybe I should try them but I am at loss among so many options for Editors!
Angie - and Zap as you have those trousers - are all of Editor styles fit similar in the thighs or some are more forgiving there?

Avoid the denim Editors, Sveta. Those fit a little differently. PM Laura and ask her if there is an Express on our shopping route next week

Tahari, Classiques Entier and BCBG are pretty good for your shape too.

No to hijack Sveta's thread, but anyone has any suggestions on sizing in the Editor pants? I am a 29 in Paige premium denim, 6 in Kut from the Kloth, and an 8 in Martin skinny pants. So my guess is it would be a 6 in Editor, based on the online reviews.

Sorry, Sveta, I hope you don't mind my asking this here. BTW, the pants that you are looking at in Espresso are wool blend so maybe not ideal for summer pants. But it looks like they have a lot of lightweight washable stretch fabrications, too.

Sveta, I have not tried the denim Editors. I have several pairs of the regular ones. My favorite are the wide waistband ones. They are the most forgiving on my muffin top:

The fabric is super cool. They look almost like denim.

As far as size I usually order both 6 and 8 tall, since I can't try them at the store - they don't sell tall at the stores in NYC. I try both at home for a little bit to assess if they will stretch. Most times I keep the 6 but I've kept the 8 on the lighter colors.

The sizing is not consistent amongst colors IMO.

I am 27-29 in premium denim. I know, quite a wide range.

I am 32 in Paige Hidden Hills and 12 in Martin skinnies so I will try 12 and 14 then.
Some wools are great for summer - this is what they call tropical wool blend. My hubby has a couple of pairs, they are paper thin and he says they are cooler than khakis. I don't know how are these but I thought it may be worth a try.

I really dislike this type of pant. That being said, having seen your build and the outfits you put together, I think you could really pull them off. I am going against my own fashion rules to say that yes, you should try them out!

Zap, I just placed an order for 3 types of Editor trousers in 2 sizes each. I keep my fingers crossed that they fit!

This is a great thread! I can't wait to see how you like the Editor's Sveta! BTW, we just got an Express here right before Christmas last year, so maybe you will get one soon! They don't have talls in the store here, either. Also, have you ever tried Ricki's? You can get the long length in some of their stores and then they have an extra long length you can order. Some of those have a wider length.

@Angie: I'm wondering if I try on the regular length Editor's to choose a size and then order the tall, will it fit the same only longer? I've always heard that those are great fitting and looking pants.

What I do is I try each pair and sit around on them for 5 -10 mins. In my experience, they usually appear rather tight when you first put them on but they relax or expand really fast. By day end, the pants stretch quite a lot. That's why I try to buy mine on the snug side, so I don't end up with diaper butt by day end. You will be able to judge right away how much give does the fabric have. You will also know right away if the size is too big if the zipper area puckers out and there is a lot of wrinkling in the crotch area. The entire thing resembles a butterfly, the zipper being the body and the wrinkling being the wings LOL.

Jen - I think the rise on the regulars is shorter but perhaps Angie could confirm.
