Sorry to bother you, Angie, but if you have time, could you weigh in on whether this might be worth ordering to try? For my party, I mean. Or would it just swamp me? Reviews say that it runs large, so it might simply overwhelm up top. But it also has a nice sort of unstructured structure thing going on with the shape, and the colour would be terrific on me. And it's not as shiny as the satin one, yet still seems to have a little glow.

Una has suggested this one. It is available in petites, which might solve the waist placement issue. But it is black, it's short sleeved (not my fave -but not a deal-breaker, I guess) and in petite it might be too short. I tried on quite a lot of Adrianna Papell dresses in Holt's and even in regulars the length was too short on most of them. (The lace one with the back V in particular was ridiculously short.)

Not Angie, but just had to weigh in and tell you I love that first dress, I could see that working so well with your style, the Dolman style top seems so modern and the dress is fab in Navy. The second dress is gorgeous and from the picture of the model, it looks fairly long. I'll be anxious to see what Angie recommends! Good luck!

Thanks, Carole. The more reviews I read about the first one the more I worried, though....some people have reported their weight and height and the smallest size was too big on them....then again, you never know what their shoulders are like, or what they expect/ want in fit, either. I do have a strong enough shoulder line, I think. (Even if not much bust!)

Not Angie either but that blue on the first dress is so beautiful and I like the idea of the dolman sleeves for it's modern impact. Seems like another contender.

I love that first dress. My only concern is if you are short waisted, it could be too blouson on top. I hope Angie chimes in--perhaps she has fitted this dress.

Suz- I know Angie will have more wisdom, but thought I would add one thing. That first dress is a beautiful color for you and has a nice cut. Most purchasers reviewed it well, though the issue of it running large could be a deal breaker for you. I also noticed that the one person who felt the dress was particularly unflattering on her was a size 2, while most self-defined "apple shaped" buyers were happy with it. Always so hard to tell online.

Dresses can be hard as they have to be right and fit properly in so many ways. Good luck.

I've had that frock on four clients. So far an utter miss, despite it looking so great on the hanger. Gorgeous colour! There is something about the neck and sleeve that's off, and the skirt was shorter in real life. I vote pass.

The style Una suggested is much better. The see through bits break up the black - which is a bonus. You might need alteration on the size 2.

I almost suggested this frock. It's made my roundups a few times, and it's been a winner with five clients. Colours are stunning! Fit is fab and length is brilliant. Didn't know if the neck was right though. But after seeing you in the satin dress - the neck will work!

I'm jumping in, too. I like both dresses. I agree that waist placement on the first one is key. I'm a petite, and I often feel overwhelmed by blouson waists.

I tried looking around for a petite version of that exact dress. No luck. I did find this, though. It doesn't have the pretty pleats on the skirt, but it does have the blouson top. And it is a petite size.

Thanks so much, everyone! Angie, so glad you have seen that dress in person; it saves the trouble. Alas! The one you suggested is not available in my size except in black. I can probably find something black around here if need be. Was just hoping for another colour if possible. But if you think that neckline could work (and I agree) then I can open my eyes up to others a bit like that. V's seem to be okay for me as long as they are not super wide, super deep (or wide and deep - the worst!) or super loose.

T-Rex - thank you for the link - and we even have an Ann Taylor in Toronto that I could get to...but alas, that neckline is about the worst for me. The loose cowl emphasizes what I don't want people to notice (bony chest area). I had a dress with a neckline shaped that way that I otherwise ADORED but I had to pass it along.

The first one looks more casual I think. I loved the one Angie suggested but then read it isn't available in your size. Sorry!

Feeling your pain. I just want you to know that if I had to find a special dress I would have every bit as much trouble as you're having. While someone like dear Shannon can pop any dress in the world on and look just fabulous. Where is the justice?
