Angie, you said and several of us agreed when Kirti was hunting one down that a trench coat need NOT have a belt, could be empire-waisted instead, need not be double-breasted etc. I've also seen trenches without the tabbed sleeves or epaulettes...

So what exactly defines a trench coat as a trench and not another kind of coat?
