Hi Angie and all,

The third piece I bought yesterday was a jacket in woven cotton plaid, light blue and white. It has a boucle-like texture and raw edges. The edges and the quite boxy silhouette makes me wonder if this really is me. It is very light, unlined, comfortable and in my opinion more like a cardigan with zipper. I need a Summer cardigan or something similar.

I like it, but I'm not 100% sure (I rarely am). After trying it in a few outfits, I think I know more, but I still would love your feedback. This is for work, for throwing over a dress in Summer, etc.

How can I style this to emphasize the modern side of it? I think making it classic is easier.

#1: Paired with my black sheath. I will probably never zip it like this, but it is possible. I think it fits me well, am I right?

#2: Less contrast with a lighter pencil skirt and white tank top.

#3: Layered with a blue shirt + black A-line skirt.

#4: a) With black pencil and the new silky top. b) with the new silk top and chinos c) with white jeans white jeans

What do you think of this for me? It wasn't too pricey, and like I said, a light jacket/cardigan would be a nice addition to my wardrobe.

Ingunn, I love this style jacket but I find I struggle to make them work. I llove this styled with the pants, and think it would look great over blue jeans. I'm not loving it as much over the skirts. I find the contrast too great with the darker more corporate items. I think I would categorize this as a dressy casual garment. I'm not sure.

I love the colour of the jacket for you Ingunn but I must admit to having a poison eye for that type of raw edge.

Hmm, Ingunn, I don't know what it is about this, but I'm not loving it. Something to do with the way it is wrinkling combined with the neckline. I want to love it, and yet I do not. But I would love to hear what others think as well. It could be that I am completely wrong about it. I do see its potential usefulness, for sure.

Exactly what Suz said. I generally love these chanel-esque jackets, but the fact that this one is not lying flat in the front would drive me up the wall. I say you can do better.

So, I have a poison eye for this type of jacket. The color is really pretty, but I am just not a fan of the style. I don't feel like it is all that figure flattering. That said, I do like it better open than closed. I am also wondering if it is a bit big on you.

I don't think the raw edge fits in your style. Also, the lines don't match up in the back, and that plus the raw seam would drive me crazy.

I read the comments and saw what everyone is saying but my first reaction was to say keep. This is the kind of Chanel style jacket I would go for - raw edges are the draw! I also love the color and the seam in the back. I would imagine it with white or light jeans and a linen top, something like that, along the lines of the last picture. But that is me, and I am quite RATE. Another factor, which I cannot judge in the pictures, is whether it looks well made. I think with things with raw edges and that sort of detail it is even more important they are of good quality. Not sure that helps?

I want to clarify -- I do like Chanel jackets, do like raw edges, and do like the colour. I just don't feel as if this one is the one.

Not sure this one is right - I think it's the combo of it looking like it's wrinkled, not laying flat in front and maybe the length. I like the idea of it for a spring/summer jacket. I've looked at this style jacket too quite a lot - but never could find one in a budget range/style that worked for me.

Hmmmmm, Ingunn I'm having a hard time with this one. While I love the colour and cut of the jacket I don't know if I like the drape of it for you. I don't mind frayed edges but I don't know if this is THE jacket for you. I do like it better with trousers rather than a skirt, though.

Ceit has nailed what's bothering me - the mismatched back seam. I would return it based on this alone. Otherwise I like the style and colour very much.

I was rushing and not clear in my comment either. I am RATE as can be, but that raw centre back seam with the mis-matched stripes would annoy me a lot. I think the rough front edge plus the rough pockets etc. is too much raw edge - and it kind of puckers when you have it open.

I totally can see you in a chanel style jacket, and the colourway is lovely on you for summer.

The mismatched back seam bothers me too - it's the first thing I noticed in the back view. Also, this doesn't read as a summery fabric to me ... I vote return. You have a closet full of nicer stuff.

Anywho, Ingunn. I liked this on you. I like the rough edges and the fit (no offcenter to my eye, I think it is the pose). But, I liked it with the lighter color pieces and not the black so much. Maybe the photo is off but the colors didn't seem to go. A bluer-black would maybe work if you want to match it to black.

I say go for it, it is perfect weight for our summers (eh hem, green winter)

#4 is my favorite. I like the juxtaposition of the clean lines of the skirt and top with the nubby texture of the jacket and its frayed edges. I really like the look of the rolled sleeves too. I say its a keeper. It seems to play well with the other items in your wardrobe.

The first thing I saw, like Ceit was the miss matched checks across the back; it's not of center, just badly matched. I know thats because I sew, but it would drive me nuts. As for wether it's you I'm a bit like Suz in my thoughts, I love the idea of it but is this the one?

Love the jacket! Very Tory Burch this season :). And best worn open.

The very last option with the white jeans, Ingunn. THAT's the way to wear this type of jacket. It's begging for white! Or faded blue jeans, or normal blue jeans. Or other pastels. I like the jacket less with black and navy. Just not as fresh and pretty.

I actually love the jacket, and I love it on you, but like others have mentioned - the mismatched checks on the back would drive me bonkers! I'd return it based on that alone. I'd love to find something like this to wear with skinny jeans and button down shirts. Love the soft blue too!

Suz and Sarah, I was surprised to see the wrinkling and puckering, too. I didn't notice that when I tried the outfits on.

Ceit, I'm so glad you pointed that out. I've totally missed it. I don't know where my head is these days - in a fog!

Shevia, this is an important side of a purchase. Is this well made? Well, I'm not convinced because of the mismatching seam down the back. The zipper pulls a little, too.

Texstyle, I've also had my eyes open for these for some time, but they've either been to poorly made or too expensive. I liked this one because it's so soft, more like a cardigan. I also like the colors a lot.

hedgiehog, I'm leaning towards return. I had the initial doubt, and most of you don't seem to find it a great choice for me, either.

missvee, I agree that the mismatched seam is a huge turn-off.

Jayne, you are right about it being perfect for our weather. It IS mismatched, though, I've checked.

DV, thank you! I am a bit let down by the fact that is doesn't like my black dress as much as I hoped.

Diane, I dabble into sewing myself, and I agree that a mismatched seam is a sign of poor quality. Somehow I don't feel completely at home in this jacket anyway.

Oh, Angie - thank you! I'm very happy that you liked it, it's comforting to know that it wasn't a horrid choice. We double posted, by the way I'm not sure if I have enough light pieces for this jacket, then. I have the white jeans, and a light pencil skirt, but that's about it. I'm also turned off by the mismatched seam in the back.

I'm gonna be annoying and say my favorite look you posted was with the skirt and top in 3. It's work appropriate but with the raw edges of the jacket it's interesting and current. I really like it, and Chanel type jackets are not usually my thing. But only you can say whether the seams etc. bug you so much you won't want to wear it.

I have poison-eye for Chanel-type jackets, so I was worried. But this is really cute. It's Chanel-esque, but is relaxed in construction, which makes a huge difference. I'd keep.

I typically do not like this style of jacket - likely due to a personal fit issue as they make me look like a large rectangle, and they are too chanel for me. However, I love this on you. I like the raw edge, love the colour and like how you have styled. I had to remind myself not to rush out and try to copy it due to fit for my type.

I could probably live with the mismatched back seam if the front of the jacket didn't bunch up - rather than lying flat when it is unzipped. That "wrinkle" I think makes it look like the zipper is wrong - or it is stretched out or something. Not sure - but it just doesn't drape quite right in the front! The color is beautiful on you!

Love the colour and the style on you. Agree that the white pants, and over jeans would be the best look. The jacket looks a little rumpled, though, so I would say 'return' but keep looking...because this look is a cute look.
