Ask Angie: Advise for my bridesmaids dress

I need advise on a bridesmaids dress (please see link) I will be wearing and think it needs a little something to help it.

I was think a belt or something else around the waist.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Pretty dress! Can you tell us a bit more about the situation? What is bothering you about it? Are you supposed to be dressed identically to the other bridesmaids or can you change it a bit?

Thank you Suz! All the bridesmaids are wearing different dresses, but all are the same color (champagne). I don't think the dress compliments my waist with my body figure. I bought the sash to try and accentuate my waist a little more but I'm not liking it.

Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated

I think the sash looks great on you (I'm assuming that's you in the picture) but if you don't care for it here is an idea:

- Leave off a belt completely. The seam creates some waist definition to begin with and doesn't need a belt. If there are loops you could just neatly cut them off. To make up for the lack of a belt you could wear some bracelets and dangling earrings.

- Look for another type of belt. Like a metallic leather belt or obi style belt. This might be very hard to find though.

My advice would be to leave off the belt and look for some amazing earrings.

I like the sheen the ribbon adds and the color too, but I don't think it's sitting very well, it looks as thought the dress has a higher than waist level seam and the ribbon is going to settle to your natural waist

You could add those little thread type belt holders but I'm not sure the ribbon will stay in place smoothly over the seam.

The seam at the high waist is finished in a way that makes it look as though it's meant to be seen and to create definition. It's pretty obvious that you have a lovely figure. I agree with Cocolion, I'd leave off the belt and add earrings and bracelets.

Thanks Coco and Isabel, really appreciate your feedback. The dress does have a higher than waist level seam which is competing with the sash. Perhaps bracelets and dangling earrings are the best way to accessorize.

Love the look and price point of the Kate Spade earrings, any bracelet suggestions?

I think it's lovely, and lovely on you. The lace is already giving it more richness of detail than the average bridesmaid dress. The colour also appears to be flattering on you. The effect is a slim and definitely feminine column, a figure type that many envy. Don't fight the cut of the dress.

Kate Spade has some pretty bracelets too, there's a cuff with pearl detail in the Dainty Sparklers section at the site that might be pretty..

I don't think the sash is working, myself, but I'd like to see what the dress is like without it before making any suggestions.

Perhaps you could show us a picture of you wearing the dress without the sash?

Thank you everyone for your advice. I feel much more confident in the dress, and I think I will go with simple elegant earrings and a bracelet.

Sorry I'm late, but what Isabel said. Some other dress may allow for more defined belting. This one has the higher seam and more subtle shaping, but it fits you perfectly and you look elegant and wonderful in it. It's a great choice.
