A front tab is a detail on a waistband. It's when the front part of a waistband extends beyond the centre front and fastens off to the side. Sometimes the extended tab front loops though an additional front belt loop as well. This makes going to the loo a little more of a hassle.
But it does spread the bulk of the fastener out in case you have a "tummy." I don't really have much bulge in the tummy area, but some pants that fasten right in the middle make it look like I do. I love tab-waist pants for this reason.
