Ask Angie - what to wear to industry awards night?

We have our work industry function/awards night in a few weeks time. It will be a Friday night at a funky convention centre. Last year I rocked up in my work clothes... my boss had on a long frock with hair up... There was a range in between but most people definitely were wearing going out/dressed up clothes. HELP! What can I wear??? I have my black work trousers... no skirts or dresses... There are some taupe shiny wedge peep toes online which could arrive on time... While I am panicking, perhaps this could be fun to do something pretty/ or fancy. Thank you!

I wish I knew you wardrobe better. Are you happy to buy something or do you want to shop your closet. Would something cocktail style be suitable do you think. A LBD is usually my fall back for thinkings like this.

I almost always go on the dressy side for this type of event. I feel more comfortable if I am a bit overdressed than I do if I feel a bit underdressed.

Do you have any use for a dress afterward? If so, I would suggest a simple dress in a neutral (perhaps a sheath if it works for your body) that you can accessorize for evening or put a jacket/cardi on for day.

Thank you so much... ok sounds like dress or skirt will be the go... I saw these pieces online - love paisley and rich colours. I know they ae not evening wear but would be more special for me and I could wear them later. Maybe the paisley skirt and navy jacket? Or paisley blouse and skirt? These are nice fabrics like dressy corporate wear... Or keep looking at shiny and more 'special'... I am a curvy tall size 16 and my legs are worst of the worst...

Jen: I love the paisley pencil skirt! If you don't like your legs, don't forget the option of silky tights, dress boots, or microfishnets. These can make the legs look far sleeker.

Hey Beth Ann! That sounds the go for the fishnets... Think I have fallen into the so practical I am boring category but not sure I can go totally frills etc. either.. Deborah - yes I might check out events etc too... and how did I NOT find Angie's prior posts on party frocks - so thank you! - I would like to think I could swing a retro frock like yours Angie - way cute... I will venture out and be brave...and let you know. I have a month to go so... Dianthus - I will try some dresses as well...

It could be quite stunning.

I think these colors would look gorgeous on you against your skin tone and blonde hair and I also adore paisley. You then have two separates that you can wear with other things too rather than a dress that might hang in the wardrobe and get little wear.
