Aritzia was bumpin' (as the kids say) today. I haven't set foot in stores in ages, and had my first day off also in ages, so off to the mall I went. First off, Aritzia has the market locked down for teens and young adults: sweats of all kinds (nice ones, not crappy versions) , shirt jackets , faux leather etc - I admit to swooning a bit over the faux leather stuff. I wanted to try on the Babaton Slouch coat before ordering, and the very helpful young SA was able to find me new stock not yet on the floor in my size. They only bring in the camel and black - I'm looking for the dark foxfire brown .

FYI - in case I'm not the only one who didn't notice this on their website- there is two distinct fabric choices in these coats: the recycled camel, and a regular wool blend. The wool blend is stiffer, and "different" (I'll say less luxe ) looking than the recycled camel hair. Both have that gorgeous heavy topstitching. I tried a size 2, and it was perfect.

Anyway, I'm glad I tried it on before ordering, because although it's a stellar piece, I'm not sure I want that much coat. It was quite long on me (I'm 5'5") and while it would be fine with some boots for added height, I don't wear dresses or skirts anymore, and my lifestyle is more of the running around variety . A knee length coat is perfect for me, and looks better proportionately. I actually had the long coat ready to be ordered at the cash desk - debit machine in front of me ready to tap - and then backed out at the last minute. I never do that - but am glad I did. Here's my choice instead:

I'm planning on compiling a charcoal grey scarf/beanie/thick socks /mitts complement as well as a grey/rust print scarf .

This cream shirt jacket also came home with me today
