Argh! My tailor seems to have closed up shop!

I went by to drop off the AS jacket for sleeve shortening, and my tailor is no longer there! I haven't gone by in a couple of months, but SERIOUSLY? I loved them and sent them so much business. I hope nothing bad happened to them.

I dread giving something like this to someone I don't know at all. I've asked on Facebook for some local referrals... This is almost as bad as if my hairdresser abandoned me.

You know what Una, I just found out that both my go-to tailor and my back up tailor have closed shop. It must be the economy. I bit the bullet and tried someone new.

Una - have you checked yelp.com? Don't know if they have much for your town, but at least worth checking.

AG, that is really terrible . So few people understand the art of tailoring and it is important. I want to say though, that your response to it epitomizes what I love about you : your first thought is for their well-being ! You are a good lady.

Kyle, when I lived in Boston TWO of my hair stylist ( in succession ) moved to FL. I CRIED over the first one. I was numb for the second. After that, I would "interview" stylist and ask if they had any plans to move to Palm Beach ! LOL

This seems to be a trend. Here in Oakland, I've seen about 4 tailor shops close up. Not only that, true shoe cobblers seem to be taking a hit too. I heard on NPR not too long ago that there are only 7,000 shoe cobblers left in the US, down from a high of 70,000+ 60 years ago. These are exacting trades and I feel we should support them as much as possble.

Sorry i was MIA Una! Bumping this - my mom said she uses Jennys Alterations near Old Seward and Tudor. I would trust her suggestion because she's pretty....um....hmm...well she wouldn't go to someone who didn't do awesome work.

My BFF just said, "some lady on Arctic" so maybe she doesn't go there as often as i thought lol

Sarah - I was born and raised in Alaska. I moved when i was 20 but i usually go back once a year or so to visit.
