Argh! Gap curvy fit = dreaded muffin top!

At the recommendation of several stylish forum members, I have been trying on the Gap curvy fit jeans. In the store today I tried on both the dark and medium color wash. They both are giving me significant muffin top! Does the waist tend to stretch on the curvy fit? The rest fit perfectly, which is typical of my apple tendencies but the muffin top was there. I had a pair of the old curvy fit (the double button kind they discontinued) and because of the brilliant wide waistband did not get the dreaded muffin top.

So, perhaps it is back to the drawing board. Still on the hunt for under $100 (under $75 ideally) bootcut jeans as I lose the last bits of baby weight.

Did you try the Long and Lean? I liked those when I tried them on, but it's been a while.

Sorry to hear that, agrace. Get yourself off to Sears and try their jeans. They have several high waisted styles.

Isn't the curvy fit supposed to be smaller at the waistband and curve through the hips to prevent waistband gaping? I have a love/hate relationship with curvy styles. They fit my backside wonderfully but squeeze me at the waist. I suspect it's the same for you?

Maybe you just need a non-curvy fit.

I've had good luck w/ Levi's 512s--I have a very long torso/rise and they work well for me. They are definitely a higher rise style, though on me they hit a couple inches below the waist, just high enough to avoid the muffin top. However, I'm closer to an hourglass than to an apple, so your mileage may vary.

I also have a pair of the 512 straight legs that I like--they are about as close to the "skinny jean" look as I can get away with. Skinny enough to tuck into boots, but not so skinny that I look like a stuffed sausage.

According to online reviews, the sizing is a bit variable in different Levi's washes. Evidently they are produced in different countries depending on the wash. If you can find some in stores like Sears, JCPenney or Kohls to try on, that's great. I ordered some from Zappos to get the dark wash and size that I wanted, and luckily they fit well.

I had the same problem with the curvy fit. The long and lean fit me great, though. Unfortunately, they must have recently changed the stretch content of the fabric, though, because while an older pair I have don't "grow" on me at all, the newer pair I have are falling off me after a couple of hours. So frustrating.
