While going through my accessories today, I noticed I own 4 box clutches. I bought them at a time I used to attend a lot of weddings and parties. I have gold, silver, black and red. (Kind of like the image below, but mine don't have any shimmer).

Are you still using your box clutches? I still see them sold in stores, so they can't be totally dated. But I can't think of a single way to use them besides special occasions. And even then, I now prefer slightly bigger clutches. What to do with these?

I own two that I have had for eons -- do not even remember when I got them. I use them fairly frequently for dinners out with DH when I do not want to carry a big bag or even a large clutch -- just want a place to put my lipstick, small comb, cell phone and credit card. I have also used them on resort or cruise vacations when I am able to leave the big handbag back in my room. And yes, they are still perfect for weddings and cocktail receptions.

Have never used one, even tho they're pretty. Too small and hard to open for me.

Mareera, how timely, I also just took an inventory of my clutches. I have two box clutches and on my last shopping trip I found similar styles are still sold in stores. I think they are classic. I love mine but they are for evening wear only because they are super dressy. I used to attend many formal events but rarely have any need for them anymore. Unfortunately, I am passing them along solely because they do not fit my phone. The old candy bar style phone fit but my iPhone does not and I just do not go anywhere without my phone.

I did come across these fun box clutch while shopping for a replacement that does fit my phone. I would love to add one to my dressy-casual clutch collection.

From my understanding , they are even more prevalent than ever! And with more inventive and artistic designs and styles. I've never owned one, not ever having the need for one (and to go to one wedding or formal dinner maybe a year, I can live without ) but if I did, I'd sure still be using it.

I just bought one this summer, and have used it three times, and hope to use it a lot more. Mine was purchased for a wedding, but I have taken it out to dinner too. I will use mine for evening wear mostly, but would take it with jeans dressed up too.

I've been tempted, but it would totally be for non-formal occasions and mostly using the chain strap -- kind of in place of a tiny cross-body or shoulder bag, but I've always decided that might be pushing the intended use too far...

All 4 were bought for some wedding or the other. (I married young; all of my friends as well as my sister got married later). However, I no longer go to weddings - at all. Everyone I know is married; I haven't been to a wedding in like 3 years.

Secondly, not all 4 of these fit my phone. Back then, I used to have a Blackberry. The iPhone6 is sleeker but longer. I may have to pass 1 of these on for just this reason. Like Colette, I don't go anywhere without my phone. But then again, it'd be perfect for holidays. My husband and I take one international beach vacation a year where we forget the world and put away our phones. I could use the clutch for evening dinners then, perhaps?

I think the problem is that all 4 of my clutches are small. Had they been slightly bigger, I'd still use them for an evening out. But they're rather small. (I'm holding one in both these pictures)

I, too, bought several for dressy events and haven't used them for years. I just saw them yesterday when I was looking for a different rarely worn item.
I wonder about purging phones because they don't hold phones. Do you think phones size will shrink so that they fit again?

I don't have a box clutch but I want the polar bear on ice one. Not very practical but I would use it for weddings (all of a sudden we are going to our friends' children's' weddings) or other special events.

I like them, and kinda gravitate there because angular styles can work well for me, but only have a couple now that are thd right size and shape. Like Colette, I can't fit my stuff in them. I need reading glasses ( formal events programs, hymns, auctions, etc), phone, sometimes contact lens stuff. The box is too rigid, so things have to fit just so or it won't close. Tending now towards simple, flexible rectangular clutches in the right colors and materials.

I think they look really nice Manny and they are definitely on trend too. I would definitely try using them on holiday...and if you use it for going out when not on hol...why not ask hubby to pop your phone in his coat pocket

I only have one box clutch, carried to a wedding about 15 years ago and never used again -- I just find them a bit awkward for me, especially the small ones. And I know what you mean about bags and phones! I'll unload any bag if the phone pocket no longer fits my device (well, okay, not my Bottega Veneta, I use the old skinny flip phone sized pocket for my keys).

Maneera - the first thought I had when I saw these was, 'Indian weddings!' they were ubiquitous a few years ago at every Indian dressy event (weddings, celebrations at mosque for me), but now they are being replaced with gold, silver and nude leather clutches, I find. I've never owned one because I found them slightly too conventional on me - but I do like the quirky and graphic ones here with western outfits.

I have a love hate relationship with clutches. They are so darn cute (esp my polar bear one!), but the size is so impractical for my lifestyle. I can't resist those cute Kate Spade clutches though. I also bought one shaped like a camera and am debating whether to keep it. Clutches are like the purse version of my 4 inch dragonfly heels. Beautiful but totally impractical!
