Are you getting sick of looking at trench coats yet? K/R

Well, it seems that EVERYBODY is looking for a trench coat for spring right now, and I'm no exception. Can you bear with just one more?

I ordered the one from Talbot's that Jonesy recommended to Rae, and it arrived today. It fits me perfectly, and I really like that it has a zip-out liner, but the color is a duller red than I had anticipated from the picture online. After trying it on, I think I actually like the color because it's sort of more subtle than a bright red, but I would like your opinions. If not this color what would you recommend? I want something other than black, and the classic khaki/ beige is not a great color for me.

The other issue is that I am rather thick through the middle, so I don't know whether the belted style is doing me any favors. Maybe I would be better off with the sleeker line of an unbelted coat.

Opinions please? Keep, or keep looking?

I think it's a win, and the slightly subdued red is the perfect foil for your russet hair. Keep!

Gorgeous! It looks pretty close to your true red coat. I like the color--it's a bit softer than the bright red. I think it's a keeper!

I really like this color on you, Parsley! I don't think it's dull, just more subdued rather than bright. Definitely flattering in fit as well. Actually, it reminds me a lot of the anorak I dyed red.

How is the material? I don't think the description mentioned if it is water resistant. Do you think it will hold up to wrinkles well?

Rae, It wrinkles a little when crumpled, but not terribly.
I just sprayed it with a little water, and no, it's not very waterproof. If I keep it I'll give it a good coat of waterproofing spray.
I'm really curious to see your Scottevest one when it comes.

I'm leaning toward keeping it. The price was good. It was on sale plus another 25% off.

I'd really love this Burberry one, but it's six times the price, and I don't think I'd enjoy it THAT much more:

I really like the color even better than a true red. It reminds me more of the Nantucket Red. Looks great open.

Seriously, I think this looks good on you. If it's comfy it's a keeper.

Le sigh. Burberry is the best by far - just about every colored trench I've seen was gorgeous - but of course that is part of the reason they cost so much...

If you are down to hit up the trench with waterproofing spray, my vote is keep! Perfect length, collar pops, sharp shoulders, liner, and pretty color. Add in the water protection, and it's golden. I wish it came in rust!

Personally, I'd prefer more of a true red than the softer version you have here, but that's just my opinion and I seem to be in the minority. I quite like the cut on you, but the fact that it's not very waterproof would make me nervous. But then, I've never waterproofed clothing -- is that something you've done before? Will it affect the color?

To my eye, the fit looks fab, and the color definitely suits you. How do you like it in terms of color and fit? The faded red seems like a matter of personal preference to me.

I am not entirely sold on the fit. The double breasted style and tie belt is shortening your torso just a tad too much. Perhaps you can take another picture so that I can see the detailing a little better - if you don't mind.

I the color works, and i like it open but not so much closed... I don't like my trench closed either so I never wear it that way. If I feel it is cold or wet enough to want closed I choose a different coat. Nikwax makes nice waterproofing products in my experience.

Bring on the trenches! I will defer to others on fit, but the color is wonderful IMO.

Never ! I can not get enough of trenches and blazers, but especially those that look fab on people. You look fab. I really like the color.

I see what Angie is saying about the fit, esp. in pic 4, but it might be partly the angle. I DO think that the double breasted style is tough to wear if you are larger in the bust and/or middle or shorter waisted with a fuller bust...but not impossible.

I love the colour and versatility, but (and I'm still very new at this, so will go back and read others' comments in a minute) am thinking you might be right about the belt and double-breastedness being too bulky on you.

Sorry! Please take with a whole *pigful* of salt, though, if you're sure the fit and drape are right on you --- seeing as I'm still wrestling with keeping or rejecting my whole wardrobe myself!

I don't mean to say it looks bad, though, but I can imagine something single-breasted being more elegant and streamlined on you, or something with a softer drape... OTOH, it *could* be the camera angle. Can you try shooting from the hip, so to speak? (Unless wiser heads than mine have already resolved the issue, of course!)
