Are wrap dresses dated?

I'd like to get some more dresses in the near future, but ever since Angie started posting about some fabulous midi-dresses and the Bailey 44 dress etc., I've noticed that when shopping (online albeit), when I see a wrap dress - while I'm tempted to order/buy, I am holding back for some reason.

I thought I had a lot of clothes cluttering up my closet, but there's really only one dress that I like a lot, and one that I sort of like. There's the green marble print dress (still love this) and there's a LOFT grey sweater dress (sort of like, but still haven't worn out of the house). I think the rest of my dresses are mistakes - although there aren't really a lot of them.

In any case - is it just me, or are wrap dresses starting to seem a bit dated? Or is it just the ones I'm looking at?

I think wrap styles are pretty classic. Maybe the choice of hemline, fabric, color and print make a particular one feel more or less current.

I'd agree with Janet. A wrap dress never really goes out of style but you can get tired of certain patterns or fabrics. Or, if that is the silhouette you've often worn, you might just crave some variety. Nothing wrong with that.

Also, if wrap dresses are flattering to you personally, that's one thing. But if they don't flatter you, then it doesn't really matter how "in style" they are.

Thank you both - this helps a lot. Good to know that this item is a classic and does not really go out of style. I don't actually have any wrap dresses right now, but was second-guessing myself while looking at dresses online earlier today.

I will also say they are classic! But they can all fit and drape a little differently, so make sure to find the right one for you.

I can't really say if wrap dresses are 'in' or 'out', because I'm not exactly attuned to the winds of change -- I'm usually the one doing the asking! -- but I have noticed that wrap styles are super flattering on a helluva lot of women, so my guess would be that it's a classic.

Thank you! And thank you annagye for those links - I feel a lot better now. The wrap dress seems like a "no brainer" but when you're re-creating your wardrobe, it's easy to second-guess. I will say though that the wrap dresses I was looking at earlier today were not nearly as stylish as the DVF examples you posted.

Nevertheless - I'm glad to hear that most of you think that wrap dresses are *not* dated. This helps a lot.

Definitely not dated and I say classic. Agree with earlier comments that it will be things like length, pattern, etc that can make a wrap dress appear dated but overall I do think a wrap dress is timeless.

I say classic, too. What's more, there are plenty of them online, so I doubt they're going out. The key, of course, is wearing a dress that flatters you.

Maybe what's changing is your own style. Wrap dresses are very classic, but if they are not feeling like you, then maybe your style is moving away from modern classic (if that's what you are or were) and going in a new direction?

Even though they are supposed to be universally flattering, they've never worked for me. Just because something works on one body type doesn't mean it's right for you. I would experiment with some other shapes as well as this one and see what suits you best.

I'm with others that wrap dresses are a classic that does not go out of style. The prints may, or your personal tastes may (especially if you are not feeling the classic vibe in your personal style right now).
