Are Ugg boots a fashion don't?

They've never been on my radar so I have no idea. My mom kindly offered to buy me a pair and I'm guessing she already has, so I don't want to be rude.

What would you wear with a pair of uggs?

I'd say yes, if we are talking about these boots worn anywhere other than as gear or around the house when it is freezing outside. I hope that's not taken as a slight to your mom - I've just really disliked the look ever since the boots first made an appearance (worn with super short skirts or shorts) while I was in college. I don't think that they are flattering to the leg or the foot.

However, Ugg also makes some legitimately cute boots that don't look like sleepwear. I could totally see these working well, for example:

A relative also bought my dad a pair of Ugg slippers a few years back (actual slippers, not boots that happen to look like slippers) and apparently they are super warm & comfortable to wear around the house.

Something tells me I'm getting the slipper variety. I thought perhaps something had changed in the world of Uggs that I wasn't aware of?

Oh yay Uggies from my part of the world!! Super warm but super daggy!! Some girls wear them here with short short skirts and hoodies - can never figure out why their feet need to be warm but their legs must be hot?!

I know I'm in the minority here but I actually think that you can pull it off if you wear them tucked into skinnies, just like a regular pair of boots. I think the look that made them tacky is the mini skirt , ratty shorts or sweatpants & uggs combo. I guess no one wants to be a fashion dont then again, fashion is so subjective. I see a lot of fashion do's I would not even consider wearing as they are plain dont's in my eyes. I guess that is the beauty of having so many fashion choices. Enjoy your gift ( if that is what your mom bought).

I have never liked the look of Uggs, but I actually wouldn't call them a fashion don't. I think of them as something that are not my cup of tea, but fine for other people to wear out and about. I actually see a lot of people I would consider fashionable wearing them, and to me that alone means that they aren't a fashion don't, even if they aren't to my taste.

I love my Uggs. They are warm and comfortable- I wear them mostly to and from the barn or the gym. They look great with skinnies- I think the if the rest of your look is not sloppy, you can pull them off. I agree that they don't work with minis or baggy sweats...

I keep mine as house shoes to visit my mother, who does not believe in heating. Besides that someone on another thread (Angie on one of Maya's threads) linked to super cute clog booties from Ugg which I would wear anywhere.

I wear mine to schlep around, regardless of whether they are a fashion no-no. I have an embroidered brown pair and an ankle height blue suede pair. Hope to get some of the more fashion-y ones one day, like those adorable clogs.

I wear mine as house shoes in winter. Once when it was very, very cold but bright and sunshiny I wore them over skinnies to the coffee shop around the corner - I just couldn't bear the thought of putting on less-warm shoes! But everyone that day was wearing weird things to keep warm (I saw a poncho!) so I didn't feel out of place.

I wouldn't call them a fashion don't, as such - I think of them as gear or loungewear rather than something the general public should see me wearing!

Me personally, the original Uggs are good for cold winter days...indoors...as slippers. I've only worn my daughter's to run out and check the mail or start the car when it's cold cuz they're easy to slip on and off.

If I lived up North where it actually gets cold, I MIGHT wear them around the house during the winter.

But I think they are clunky and unflattering. Just sayin'.

These are very popular by me so despite my personal preferences they are definetly not uncommon to have a wear out and about. From what I hear they are quite toasty on cold days too.

How incredibly sweet of you mother to do this! When you slip them on you'll always think of her! Uggs have a place and time when they seem right on but I can't articulate what exactly that is.
