I thought they were so 2005. But lately, they seem to be resurfacing. Is it just me, or are they coming back?

I just thrifted a black ponte one new with the tags from Macy's; it was on their website s/s. I'm enjoying it! I still have a stretch suede one from 2006 or so that I love for winter layering. If you have wide shoulders & narrow hips that little extra volume at the bottom can be so helpful in balancing out a silhouette.

I've noticed a few of them popping up here and there, more in designer collections and a few finally trickling down to lower price points. I am hoping they come back because they are one of my favorite skirt silhouettes! Here's one that I am eyeing.

Oh Diana, and this skirt would fit you so well too!
I notice the flare starts higher up on thighs than the 2005-6 version. Am I wrong? This one looks incredibly fluid and comfortable.
And what shoes would you wear with it? Long boots?

I love trumpet skirts too. I have held on to 2 from several (ahem, yeah, SEVeral) years back. The silhouette works for me. Love the one Diana linked to.

Oh, I hope so! How fun. I had a long trumpet skirt in the early 2000s that I loved, and I always received compliments when I wore it. I found the shorter lengths hard to wear, though--but that was pre-boot for me (warmer climate).

I'd actually wear booties or mid-calf boots, I think. I am not a huge fan of the skirt + boots + no visible legs look. I like to see a little tights or leg in between.

Here are a couple of outfits with my existing trumpet skirts. The black one is REALLY old, probably from 2006 or even earlier. It's quite beat up and also a bit tighter than it was back then (it's jersey so still comfortable, but not as fluid as I'd like any more); I'm thinking the VC one I linked might be a good replacement. The blue one is pretty old too, probably 5 years or so.

Suz, those are really really nice. Especially the first one. I want one, in this very color too!
Firecracker, I agree about the shorter length. I have a couple of knee length "bell" shape skirts and have the hardest time styling them, let alone actually wear them.
Diana, the second skirt is sublime on you. And the way you have styled it is very appealing: relaxed, yet pulled together. I like the idea of a slightly boho shirt and low heeled shooties. The skirt is a show in itself and I find it very clever to keep the rest in muted, neutral tones, yet not too strict.

Boden has a velvet one in their new collection, I really like the look. They call it a pencil skirt though. Although I think it counts as a trumpet skirt, right?

Yes, I've noticed this silhouette a lot when I am shopping online. I like the VC one you linked to, Diana! I am excited about this silhouette too.
