I happened upon a pair of lace straight leg trousers—kind of an experiment with a narrow leg pant that just turned out to fit through the hip area, which almost never happens.
I was having some fun, tags still on, playing with the volume over skinny silhouette, even though I am 5 years late to that party, not really having bought any skinny or really straight narrow jeans. Of course this look is too body-con through the hip for tucking or for slim tops, so if I wear this type of pant, it’s only with shirt or sweater out and long enough to go to low hip.
So I wondered—are these the dreaded Audrey Hepburn slacks ( Angie’s blog post) ? Is that a length or a fit thing? And does it matter , do they offer outfit possibilities, or are outdated right out of the box or not fab anyway?
The length is to the top of the foot but without scrunch. There’s maybe ¾-1/2 inch could be let out but not sure it’d make enough difference to risk altering the hem drape.
#1 and 2: I had fun trying with existing footwear--blue lizard ballet flats and with 3” wedge booties. Then I saw a photo in PeopleStyleWatch showing a similar pant/jeans with similar wedge boots as the “out” look vs the slouchy jeans “in” look (gotta hate that!) .
The booties are a way to use Angie’s formula for making short-ish pants have a longer leg line. I had some fun this year with these booties from TJ Maxx–I wasn’t looking for that kind of height but loved the silhouette and fit around the ankle and I can actually walk in them!--but the 3” puts me out of my comfort zone, both for real comfort and for not feeling like that kind of heel is “me”. So they show me possibilites but aren't practical for enough occasions.
I wasn’t “looking” for lace trousers—that would have to be limited to party, church, date-night—and the lace is shiny, not matte (#3 but it isn't "blue", that's the flash) and the style is not my perfect trouser for a super dressy capsule. But, could this be a way to experiment if it’s not too retro to begin with and I look like I'm channeling Bewitched without the physical attributes.
#4 is WIW for real to work, with my basic trouser pants—trying to update for now by outfitting with blouse and black patent oxfords.
