Are these tall boots the correct height?

I'm a tall-boot newbie, so I need some help with my latest pick.

I'm strongly considering buying these boots- they are the Frye Melissa button in cognac. But first I wanted to make sure the height looks OK according to the tall boot experts. I can walk and sit in them without problems. But at 5'1, they are only an inch or so below my knee cap. Does that look OK or should I be looking for a slightly shorter boot?

The boots are versatile and very pretty, and I can see why you like them! I had a similar situation today, trying on boots with the same height. I'm 5'3''. I chose not to buy them after all because I didn't like how they flared a bit below the knee, making my legs and knees look wider. It is difficult to match this look with a skirt just above the knee, too. You should try them with a skirt before you make your final desicion. Maybe you can find a boot that fits more snugly around your calves, if it's not an inch lower or so? That's what I'm going to look for.

In fewer words: You can of course buy them if you love them, but be aware of the flare!

Ingunn - I see your point about the flare. It doesn't bother me so much (I'm actually looking to add a little volume to the legs since I'm an inverted triangle). I also don't think I could take it much tighter- I have pretty athletic calves!

My problem is more that I'm not sure how they're supposed to look! I don't want to look like a little kid in galoshes or rain boots

I can't see the second picture- you seem to have hidden it, but from the first picture my impression is that they are a bit tall for you.

Ya know, I really love tall boots...how tall is too tall, anyway? If you can sit and walk in them then I say get!!!

I think they are too tall. They might hit the back of your leg when you sit down. I'm sorry!
ETA: I see the second picture. It is hard to see where your knee is. I think they still look a little too tall for you.

hmm, they look better from the side, but from the front they do give a slight kid in galoshes vibe.

I think they are too tall. Frye has way too many too-tall boots for those closer to 5' than 6' IMHO. You and I are exactly the same height, and I'm an IT also, and a 14 inch boot height is really best for me. I think these are 16' from my (far too detailed) research on Frye boots. I actually think this kind of flare can add to the IT shape by creating an additional IT along the legline, so I prefer my tall boots to have a closer fit and my calf or shorter boots can be a bit chunkier.

Two years ago I would have never thought about any of these things, but since we are so similar in height and build, I thought I'd overshare.

They are lovely boots. I like tall boots but am 5'3" and have had some challenges finding the right boot. I have had to return a few pairs because they hit at the back when I sit. I think if these do not do this, they are contenders.

Gorgeous boots but my main concern here is the flare at the top. I don't think they fit close enough to your leg.

They look too tall to me; they are gaping around the top because your calf isn't filling them out since they're closer to your knees. I would vote to keep looking.

Thank you all so much for the feedback! It looks like you've saved from a rather costly mistake ( I was going to suggest them to my husband for my birthday).

Alaskagirl- thanks for the IT suggestion - I can see what you're saying about the "double triangle" effect..

Does anyone have suggestion for a classic tall riding boot for those of us who are not so leggy? In the 14inch shaft range? Or do I just need to bite the bullet and spend some time trying on boots ( I have an infant so shopping expeditions are a bit of a bear!)
