Are these shorts long enough?

This is a final sale item.

I did find a pair of DKNY one that met Angie's approval but they're already sold out.
I'm 5'8" and was planning on wearing them with tights and OTK boots. I'm also 37 so Angie said I'm too old for the short shorts look.

Well, I tend to be lenient on the length question, but the silky, drapey texture would be at odds with the tights and OTK boots look. But I wouldn't know, that's just what I think.

I would love a grey tweed, but the ones I've found so far are in the $200-$300 range.

I found some longish tweed shorts a few days ago but I can't remember who made them or where I saw them. I can look when I get home.

Have you been to the Gap? They had a pair of walk short length tweed shorts. Tanya bought them and they looked great on her.

I should add that I don't think the shorts are online but they are in stores. I saw them a few days ago. If you can go today you might score 40% off too since it's a Wednesday.

Ooh, I like the second two better than the first one - the more structured look reallly appeals to me. The drapey ones remind me of harem pants. If you buy one of them, could you please post a picture? - I am really keen to see how shorts look with OTK boots.

The whole final sale thing would make me nervous, unless I had another pair of shorts that were the same brand, so I was guaranteed they would fit! I like the See by Chloe ones you've linked to, but I'm wondering about the color for you (both options look like earth tones, and it seems like you wear a lot of black and gray).

Maya I like the fabric on those a lot, but they look a bit long. I wonder if I can get away with shortening them to mid thigh. Hoping Angie chimes in.

love the tyrolean shorts and the rugby shorts. i think you can more than get away with shortening it to lower mid thigh.

i can see the shorts with tights and the round toe black wedges (love!) in your series on saving a closet orphan.

theoretically, i can see it with otk as well, but i would think she were trying too hard...just my opinion.

So, I am far and away from being the expert on age appropriateness (especially by YLF standards)...but my theory is that if 2/3 of your thighs are covered, you're in good shape.

I am a little strict when it comes to age appropriate dressing - especially about the length of things. But you do have the option to bypass my guidelines, Anna. Just making sure that you know that

I like Maya's suggestion of keeping two thirds of the thigh covered. Half would be pushing it. The Chloe shorts are my favourite and the shopbops are fab too. I think that they would be long enough for your 5ft 8 height.

I really like the cut of those See by Chloe ones (and the colors), but I was also wondering if the color would be your thing. Funny that this seems to be one of those items that is hard to find at the moment. The Rugby ones could definitely be shortened, but the cut is more traditional than the other ones.

Remember to consider what you will look like seated in the shorts when considering length. They will ride up. I like the ones Maya linked to best for your age and height.

I think retailers will have more options coming out soon. The Reyes ones are very cute - too bad they don't have your size. I like the rugby ones but they look a little conservative for your style! I personally don't like the super long ones (knee-length) so 2/3 or maybe a little shorter sound perfect. How do you feel about the paper-bag waist ones? Would you tuck in with them?
