They're right on the cusp of being frumpy, but it could go cool, depending on the styling.

I will be the voice of dissent here-I absolutely love the blue pair and think these are rather classic yet modern and can be worn with pretty much anything-bootcut jeans, skirts, pants, the list goes on. Cream pair borders on frumpy, in my opinion. If you look in any fashion magazines you will see the shoes like the blue one you have all over the place. I would go with these for sure

Ditto Victoria - the blue is what I would go for and pass on the cream. The Trotters are shaped like the slipper shoe but the woven leather is looking dated to me.

I'm not going to be of much help because I like the cream not the blue. I think the cream are more on trend, due to the loafer style, The blue can go either way.

Jem, I love the blue and given what I have seen in the store here over summer I wou,d say they are quite current. I also like the white ones. I have seen very similar in my favourite vintage store and they look like a loafer which is very on trend. As Anna said it's all in the styling..can we see them as part of an outfit?

I like the blue. The cream pair would probably be very comfortable owing to the brand but even though people are seeing a resemblance to the slipper loafers, they are pure comfort shoe style to me, been around for years in exactly this look.

I feel the blue and the cream pair would serve very different purposes in your wardrobe. The blue would make a jeans outfit look smarter and the cream pair scream weekend wear to me.

With the right styling both pairs could work.

I prefer the cream ones, too -- just don't wear them with a tea-length pleated polyester skirt with matching embroidered blouse, baggy suntan hose, a too-big cardigan that hangs down to your knees, and a patchwork leather shopping bag!

I would imagine wearing these in a similar way to flat oxfords, or with a summery shirt dress.

I agree with Annagybe that both could work if styled in a current way. However, if it takes much work on styling them so that they look current and fresh then maybe neither one will be quite as versatile as you would wish.

It's all in the styling! These could both be so wrong or so right. I would tend towards the blue ones myself because I'm still seeing a lot of these "slipper flats" (the light loafers) in the thrift stores from the last time around. You could rock them though!

The blue shoes are cute and smart and would wear well, being patent leather. I am wary of basketweave in a shoe because my broad foot pushes it out of shape. I think it's hard to present a "well turned heel" in that style of shoe.

Thanks everyone! I haven't bought them yet, I was considering them. I can see why I was confused, because there seems to be a huge disparity in what people think about them! Thanks for chiming in Angie, I think I'll get the blue pair, the other pair was a bit of an afterthought.

Any styling suggestions for the second pair? (and the first for that matter)
