Are these pants frumpy?

I am attempting to fill a wardrobe hole for the spring/summer - black cotton pants. Somehow I think these pants are looking a little boring/frumpy - instead of clean and classic. What do you think? Can I do better?
I would probably pair these with v-neck sweaters and scarves in the spring and transition to t-shirts in the heat of the summer. Generally, I am a conservative, 45 year old, SAHM.

Then my next question is, do I need a pair of black pants at all? I have become OBSESSED with white. I have several pair of white pants - skinny jeans, cropped jeans, wide linen. Everything I would wear with black, I could easily just wear with white. Maybe I should try a colored pant or jean instead. Maybe I need both.

christina, I like the pants however I am wondering if it is the length that is making you feel frumpy? I tend to feel this way with that length myself. I couldn't survive without black pants but only you know if they are a good addition to your wardrobe. I wonder if shortening them might be an option, say more to a bermuda length?

I think you could do better. Combine the length with the high rise and these (to me) look frumpy. As to your question about if you actually need black pants - I am wondering do you have summer tops that need to be paired with black bottoms? If so, then "yes" I'd say get yourself some black pants - but if those tops will go with your white bottoms, then I wouldn't necessarily get black pants. I'd look around for a fun colorful bottom - pants/jeans - instead!

Thanks! I think the width and length are two strikes against these. I appreciate the advise.
I think I would like a black pant for variety and a fun color for interest.
I will return these and search for better options. As an hourglass, I find it very hard to find the right fit.

Yes, I think it is the length that throws them off. So longer or shorter.

But you may not need black pants for summer at all. It all depends on your weather and as Marley says, what you have for tops.

You don't need black pans, especially for summer. Your best neutral might be white or grey or navy or even yellow. These don't look like they fit well. You can do better

Not sure about the fit and the length. I like the neutrals that Joy mentioned if you can get by without black. Love your leopard flats! Can I ask the brand?

Not everyone needs to wear black. Everyone that commented on the length is right. Either longer or shorter because these are a bit off.

It looks to me like the fit is fine. . . but I also struggle with cotton chino-type pants.

My eye has gotten used to the silouette of skinny jeans and trousers, and cotton pants like this just never have the graceful drape of a proper trouser.

There are lots of ankle-length jeans out there that might have a bit more structure (and look neater) and still be mostly cotton, you should be able to find black if you need them for black tops.

But you mention other colors, so why not give it a try? Gap has lots of fun colored skinnies that you can pair with neutral basic tops. . . and if you don't want a tight fit, you might have fun with a slouchy chino look in a non-black color or neutral.

You need to join the sisterhood of the Leith track pants! Though I don't think they are for high summer due being polyester.

I wear black in warmer months as well as white, which is a must have... Definitely think you can do better than these for reasons others mentioned... I also think adding a color is a great idea as well...Having so much fun with that myself... I am a 47 year old SAHM...

Wow! Thanks for the great feedback. I'll keep on the hunt. From your advise I think I'll look for ankle length (not cropped). And, I'll check out all the colors. In the fall I purchased red velvet jeans and teal cords. They were fabulous colors for my wardrobe and went with all my neutrals (black, grey, white, cream, brown). For the summer I'm not sure which color to start with.
