Are these jackets still on trend

Looking at adding some spring items to my wardrobe and wondering whether this style of jacket is a good addition. I think it could work well as MOTG/WAHM but after today's post am wondering whether a moto might be a better choice. I do like the idea of a navy jacket.

I purchased a navy utility jacket last fall that I wear often as an indoor topper (in winter) and as a lightweight coat when the weather is considerably warmer. It looks great with my more casual denim outfits. I also use it to "casualize" a skirt or dress outfit (as I would a denim jacket).

I do own a couple of motos (leather and pleather), but I find they are heavier (and warmer) than utility jackets. I wear them mostly as "outerwear", so they fill a slightly different role in my wardrobe. I enjoy having BOTH options.

Angie did mention utility jackets in today's blog post, so I am guessing that they are still very much on trend.

Thanks El Cee. I really love the look of the one you posted. I wondered about the rugged nature of the military/utility jacket when the trend seems to be more refined. I think I will perhaps order and give it a try.

I personally enjoy pairing rugged with ladylike. That is part of my fashion persona. I often wear the jacket with something feminine (e.g. -- lace top, drapey sheer blouse, sparkly top) or refined (e.g. - pencil skirt and pointy toed kitten heels). I like the juxtaposition, but it might not be the right look for others. With all the pockets, the jacket has a more "maximal" look. If you are more of a minimalist, this may not work for your style. I am a card-carrying maximalist.

I sure hope so, because I wear the HECK out of the one I got from J Crew in the fall! I would love it in Navy for the spring. The shiny buttons gives it a little more oomph for my work wardrobe, and something unexpected for my weekend wardrobe.

To over generalize, utility jackets tend to be longer and motos to be shorter so I think it depends on what you're going to wear it over. Motos are handy to wear over dresses and skirts and utility jackets over jeans, but you can make both work for either if you style it right, I think.

JCREW has them 25% off until Thursday. I am seriously on the fence now as to whether I need this in navy also :).
