Are these boots too tall?

I'm on the fence with these black boots. I'm looking for something that can be worn with skirts and dresses as well as more casually with skinnies. What say you? I haven't really styled them all - just threw on a pair of skinnies and a skirt to show how tall they are in the shaft.

I like them a lot. (Are there rules about tall boots I don't know about?) Are they comfortable?

Mochi, they are comfortable. I just felt like the proportions were a bit off for me? I'm only 5'2" and am very conscious of proportions!

Those are truly my type of boots, Christy. They look beautiful in the photos.

As for fit, this is where it gets very subjective. There are fashion bloggers and forum members who like to wear their boots like this - whereas I think that the shaft is too long. They fit in the calf, but to answer your question - yes, too tall for petite you. At least an inch and a half too long in the shaft. You kind of get away with the length when you wear them over jeans, but it's much more pronounced when you wear a skirt.

FWIW, that's my take on the fit! Sorry to be a mare :(. They do look like stunning boots.

Hmm. Much to learn re proportion here, but if that's a general concept, then wouldn't over the knee boots that are all the rage right now definitely be pushing beyond the limit? I see them basically cropping short the upper leg line of everyone I see who wears them.

I'm not much taller than you. I would do it, but I guess with a skirt would try to wear the same color tights, fwiw. Or maybe a slightly shorter skirt would balance the proportions? Just my amateur suggestion.

Sorry, Mochi. I don't understand the comparison. I'd like to understand, though

OTK boots fit in a completely different way to sleek knee high riding boots. Also, it's all in how you see the leg line with OTK boots: you see a shortened upper leg, and I see a lengthened lower leg. We all see different things! Does that make sense?

If they were an inch shorter there would be no gap at the top. I usually look for 14-15" boots, and can sometimes stretch that to 16" depending on the kind of elastic the boots have at the top to keep them tight against my calf. They are gorgeous but I think there is something better out there for you. I have boots for dresses and boots for skinnies but it's a tough trick to find a pair of boots that works for both.

Christy, stunning boots but I also agree with Angie that for skirts they are just that bit too long. Love them with the skinnies tho:) I have something similar but I think mine are shorter and I only wear them with skinnies. I like the boots modgrl suggested.

I LOVE these boots - but I also think that they are just a little bit too tall

I have never been able to find a pair of tall boots that work with both skinnies and skirts/dresses. I have to wear an inch or two shorter boot when I wear dresses/skirts than when I wear skinnies. Kind of frustrating because it means I have to put out twice the amount of money!

Hey, i wanted to offer a suggestion. I love to wear tall boo2s like yours, but raisimg the hemline a bit, to give the boots more breathing space. If you don't really like shorter hemlines ( skirts or wool shorts) i say pass. Or make them skinnies only:-).
just to see how diverse are our feet problems , i struggle to find boots that tall( and i am petite) plenty of foldable otk, sparse sleek riding boots

So, this has me curious...for those of you who mentioned having one pair of tall boots for skinnies and another tall pair for skirts/dresses, why wouldn't the pair that is short enough to work for the skirts and dresses also work for skinnies?

Angie, do you think that a different pair of tall boots that are shorter in the shaft (like the ones Rita linked to) could serve both purposes for me?

This depends entirely on the way the boots are made and how they stretch, Christy. I actually don't wear any of my "skirt boots" over jeans apart from my 20 eyelet Docs and very slouchy Fryes. But other lasses do double duty with their boots if the fits are forgiving or sleekness is not a prerequisite.

With tall boots, you just have to keep on trying. By all means order the ones that Rita suggests and look at my post tomorrow. Is your calf circumference 13 inches?

I agree about these boots being a smidge too tall. Re. two pairs for tucking skinnies and wearing with skirts/dresses: I think a lot of people have a hard time finding boots that can do double-duty because if they are snug/sleek enough to wear with skirts and dresses, they are too snug to tuck jeans into (so, less about the height and more about the fit through the calf). That is my impression, at least. I was lucky enough to find a pair that can handle both, though I don't think I could get thick pants jammed into them :).

agreeing with the others that these are a tad tall.

I have 2 pair of tall boots (gosh, I need to get shopping don't I...that sounds so meager ;-0.....
anyhow, I have 2 pair of tall boots, and I wear both with dresses and jeans. One pair has a stretchy panel in the side that allows for a snug fit against my bare leg and allowance for jeans, and the other pair is more of a riding boot style that is probably a smidge loose to wear with dresses, but I do anyway....I wear them to add a casual edge to dresses.

Angie - my calf circumference is closer to 15". At least that's what the Miz Mooz Flynn's are which I have worn often with skirts but am wearing today over skinnies and they feel pretty good. Looking forward to tomorrow's post!

Ah. Then tomorrow's post won't really help

But 14.5 to 15 inch calves are ideal for tall boots - most boots fit this calf circumference! But the shafts have to be short for petite gals such as yourself.
