I was looking at boots and noticed these at Nordstrom's - they might work for you - they have a 12" calf which is fairly narrow:

What is your calf width, Mochachino?

12.5", so I don't have a huge problem wearing boots over jeans, but even then it can be hard to find the style I want with the right calf width. Finding boots for dresses is near impossible. Btw, thanks Tarzy.
