Are suede bags only for fall/winter?

I'm eyeing suede bag on Ebay and thinking suede is strictly a fall/winter color. I know Angie sees patent leather as year-round, but what about suede?

I am not sure. I actually don't consider suede a winter item. I think it is pretty impractical to wear suede in winter. It is more spring and fall for me, depending on color, more muted for Fall and brighter for Spring.

I think suede is an all year round item. In winter you have to treat it with the protecter spray or the rain could ruin it.

I think it's year round- bags as well as shoes. I don't know why suede gets the label of being for fall/winter only. Nowadays, there are light or bright colored and lighter in weight suedes that work great for warm weather.

This is something I struggle with too; I know that suede isn't just for winter but I have a hard time picking it for summer.

For me it would depend on the colour, I have some navy suede shoes which appeal to me fall/winter time and some pale grey boots which I reach for in the spring or when the sun is shining x

I vote year round, but it depends on the color of the suede, right? A bright suede in a yellow or orange would look out of place in the fall/winte. It would look FAB in the spring/summer. What' the color of the one that you are thinking about?

I think it's year-round. Suede has kind of a Western vibe to me, so I feel like it fits right in with summer items if you have any kind of rugged element to your style. I especially feel this way about suede in tan/brown colors and in slouchy styles.

I think along the same lines as Nakidra and Khris: year round as long as the vibe is light. Think of all the great bright and cheery spring and summer shoes, including dainty sandals in suede leathers (these are from JCrew). I love the texture that suede adds to an outfit.

I have a hard time picturing suede in summer. It seems too "cozy" for lack of a better word. I don't care as much for leather handbags in summer either, if it comes to that. Canvas seems lighter, breezier, etc. I like leather and suede for fall and winter best, and then in the right colors (light, bright, soft) for early spring.

I have a really light squash colored patchwork suede satchel from Fossil that I think works well for spring. Maybe not summer though.....Note to self...must take bag to leather shop for a little cleanup.

Thanks everyone! You make some really helpful points...especially re the color of a suede bag making the difference...as well as the shape (rae). I'm thinking a suede bag could work for spring in the right color, but maybe not in the extreme heat of summer. The bag I'm looking at is a very slouchy hobo in a burnt orange color. It's not exactly a bright color so it may not be the best for spring.

Claudia, thanks for the link to the brightly colored suede sandals. I never would have considered suede for summer! Your point about suede adding texture to outfits is a good one. Texture is something I need more of in my wardrobe.

I think suede BAGS are year round. But admittedly, a suede bag in summer is pretty hippie - not that there's anything wrong with that, LOL. (Hope not, since one of my schiz personalities is hippie chick...)
