Are separates just more versatile?

That is SO cute!! Personally, I would do the dress, because you can always put a sweater on over the dress and wear it like a skirt, but you can't turn the skirt into a dress. Plus, I like how the dress drapes over the tummy better than how the skirt poofs over the tummy.

In this particular case, I prefer the skirt. It looks more full, but I think that may just be the product images. I'd totally do a lot of tucked-in outfits with that skirt, which is why I prefer it-- it takes a lot more finagling to do that kind of look with a dress than to just pop something over it.

I prefer the dress for the reasons Rae mentioned. In the more general sense, I suppose separates are more versatile, but I will always prefer dresses. There is nothing easier, and the look can be easily changed by changing what's worn over the top, yet it is almost an entire outfit the moment you put it on.

I think separates are more versatile as a rule, but you have to have the pieces that work wtih them. And dresses are complete, which is a great thing.

I like the dress better, for the reasons Re mentioned, and nothing beats having a whole outfit to just pop on!

While I think separates are technically more versatile, dresses can be restyled with different toppers, wearing a sweater completely over the top, and on their own. They lend a certain polished cohesiveness, especially on mornings when you need to grab and go!

Hmm, I probably -shouldn't- be turning the skirt into a dress. LOL.

This skirt and the dress is from ModCloth (of course) - I love them both! I like to tuck into skirts too, which is starting to sway me a little bit more that way. The dress is so darling! I might have to buy one and wait for the otehr to go on sale :p

Damn, I don't think I can justify the customs/shipping etc. from Canada Why is it that if you want adorable airplane print your only option seems to be Modcloth? I remember seeing another airplane print dress from Emily and Fin on there too.

They are both very pretty! I think it is really hard to give advice here, but if it were me, I'd probably buy the dress. I've discovered that they are more versatile than one might think, and from what I've seen of your wardrobe, I think it is a good choice for you, too.

Oh, these are both so lovely! It's hard to pick, but I'd go with the dress. Like Rae said, you can style the dress so easily. And the print is so pretty and subtle that the more you see of it the bigger impact it has.

I find skirts difficult to style....finding the right top, etc....can take a lot of time. And a dress is good to go right away.

I seem to be going against the flow here but I'd say get the skirt. That dress is cut like a sundress on top so it's a one-season dress unless you put a top over and pretend it's a skirt, and even then that patch pocket will show.

Whereas that skirt is trans-seasonal--picture it with a white button-front shirt, with sleeves rolled up; or with a dressy grey Tshirt cut top; or with a fisherman sweater and boots. Also the skirt seems like it would fit better into your professional capsule.

But really I'm just saying all this because I love the poofiness of that skirt. Which you can get away with and I can't so I want to live vicariously through you.

I do go back and forth on this. Last year, I was all about the separates yet I am kind of yearning to go back to my dresses, after finding out how dismal my dress selection is, after the dress challenge.

For you, I vote separates. You seem to have plenty of dresses. Variety is good too:)
