Are Ruffle Wrap Blouse/shirts Dated?

I've found a pretty MaxMara wrap shirt in a silk/cotton blend, charcoal grey pinstripe in the thrift shop. Gorgeous fabric, great condition.The ruffle is like a collar, no lace or anything. Is this style dated, or is it classic? No photo, I'm sorry.

Hmmmm... I would focus less on the 'is it dated' aspect and more on the 'does it suit my style and personality' aspect. Can you make it yours? Can you wear it like it was made just for you?

Wrap skirts, wrap dresses and wrap bracelets are on trend. There is a kind of wrap blouse that is trending, but it's more of a cross over or folded front look, and in a looser cut.

Does your piece evoke any of these qualities? Not that it has to, to make you happy! It just depends on how much "modern" you want to project. I'm not sure if a wrap shirt is a classic, although a wrap dress, thanks to Diane Von Furstenburg, is.

I think even if a piece seems "dated", it's more about if you can make it look new again, or if it works with your style! If its something you love, don't worry about whether or not its dated to others...if you can rock it, do it!

Hard to know without seeing it. And I think dated can be variable. Depending on a person's style, one person can make it work and another may carry it in a way that does look dated.

I think it's more about how it works for your style. Also are there design features on the top that specifically date it? Or is the styling simple and more timeless.

I agree, if it suits your style, then don't worry if its a little dated right now...you know how styles come back every ten years or so...just when we are all convinced to throw out all our ruffles, they will be back big time! If you instinctively feel like its a great bargain for the item, get it, and wear it proudly! It sounds lovely.

Thanks for all advice, ladies. I went back and tried it again, but decided to save my pennies. What I loved the most was the fabric, not the style. It was a tie around the waist that would have become too fuzzy, and I also had doubts about the low cut of the neckline. I think I'm into simpler styles right now.

Denise, the first blouse you linked to is gorgeous. I'd love to have that one, The MaxMara was nothing like that, and probably not something I would have worn a lot.
