Are pant suits proper wedding guest attire?

I have worn pant suits to weddings. Several times. One time was a black wool Sarah Pacini suit that had wide legged pants with a cropped tuxedo like jacket. The shirt was black shiny material. I wish I still had that suit.
Another time I wore black wide legged pants (I am a big fan of these) and a cream lace top. My jacket was black velvet.

I am not always proper.

Yes, I've seen many dressy pant suits at weddings. Usually the pants are the loose, flowy, evening pants or pajamas. I can't remember ever seeing a MOB or MOG in a pants suit though. I don't wear dresses very often, but I do prefer to wear a dress to a wedding. I've been rethinking that lately. I have looked for evening pants outfits and haven't seen much lately. Dresses are such a pain to find as far as suitability and fit.

I think so. I know many women who do not like to wear skirts or dresses for various reasons. They wear pants suits (or even just dressy pants with fancy tops) and look perfectly appropriate.

Absolutely. If one can wear a pants suit to a presidential nominee debate. one can wear a pants suit to a wedding, IMO. Personally, I would choose a dress, but many women choose not to wear dresses or skirts for various reasons, and that is their prerogative.

Not quite the same, but I wore a long sleeve full length floral silk jumpsuit to a wedding last October. I was far from underdressed as compared to other guests. Memo to guy, a Henley shirt, really?!?

A jumpsuit is great wedding attire Anna. I would not wear a pant suit to a wedding if I was the Step MoB or Step MoG. Not sure why.

Anna, yes! I've tried on a few lace jumpsuits by J.Crew but the fit was way off and I had kind of given up on finding an affordable lace jumpsuit. I've been eyeing a teal Tibi jumpsuit, but I'm not sure the price is worth the trendiness of the item. Poor guy with the Henley--obviously a cry for help.

Absolutely appropriate if dressy and accessorized. My wedding was 28 years ago, and the only guest outfit I remember was a relative wearing an elegant black suit. In photos, her outfit is the only one that doesn't look dated.

Interesting observations. I wouldn't think it would be an issue, as long as it's dressy enough to fit the environmental norm.

I'm going to be a stepmom-of-the- groom this summer, and I'm already fretting about finding something to wear. August in the mid-Atlantic, ugh. My stepson's fiancé is going to send me a swatch of her bridesmaids' fabric -- I'm holding my breath and hoping it's something I can coordinate with easily.

I don't think it would be a problem as long as it was dressy enough for the wedding. Some weddings are more formal than others, so you'd have to use good judgment. If it were my wedding, I personally wouldn't mind how guests showed up. The important thing would be that they cared enough to come.

No worries. People have to wear what works for them. I had 3 weddings the year I broke my foot. I had to wear "real" shoes to be comfortable and wider leg dressy pants with a tuxedo jacket and silk top fit the bill nicely.

(I did attend a roaring twenties, over the top extravaganza wedding; the bride directly requested Downton Abbey level costumery of guests. Sheesh... I was told I could dress "like Lady Mary". Yes, if I had a team to dress me, a designer at the ready, and was thirty years younger I could.)

If you're adequately dressy - why not! I would wear my '70s jumpsuit to a wedding no problem.
