Are Menswear Vests Still On Trend?

I found a nice charcoal grey pinstriped menswear inspired vest (waistcoat) today from J Crew. I know it's a classic piece, but do you think it is on trend?

I don't think they are on trend but personally I find that it is always the item that if you see other person wearing it you think it was extremely smart of them.

Yay - a little love for a menswear vest is all I need to feel that I'm on track here. Thanks for providing that I think it is a tad too big for me, but it is an easy alteration to take it in in the side seams. I'll post pics tomorrow!

I don't know if they're super on trend, but there is a classic element to a vest that never goes out of style IMO. And I can see it working beautifully as a fun element in your wardrobe, Ingunn.

Not sure if it is on trend, but I think they can be pretty classic and would fit in wellw ith your style. That is more important, I think, than being on trend

I don't think they ever go out of style. Do you mind me asking if you have a link? I tried to find it on the website, but I can only see waistcoats for actual men -- not menswear-inspired ones for women.

Thanks, everyone! I definitely agree with you Thistle - it is not a big deal to be on trend as long as it fits with my style, and a menswear inspired vest is a classic piece that I hope to wear with some confidence.

Aziraphale - I thrifted it, so it's not new, obviously. I don't have a link, sorry.

I think they're pretty classic. I have one from Anne Fontaine -- it's menswear inspired (black pinstripe) but with a twist -- a sort of ruffled layered pocket detail. I don't wear it often, but I plan to keep it for ages.

I love tailored vests. Love vest for warmth, and it adds structure when I am not wearing my own jackets.
Bought a linen one, ancient I think, at consignment but have not worn it yet. Fit and length is sometimes an issue.
I'd like to figure out the best way for me to wear them now--I used to wear with trousers and pencil skirts years ago, but somehow think I'd need to do some kind of juxtaposing so as not to look Annie Hall or dated, at my age.
I'll be interested in others' ideas.

Hmm. I don't think waistcoats are on trend, although menswear is. That said, you really can't go wrong with one. They're classic.

I'd say they're a classic. Probably not on trend per se, because I haven't seen many in the stores for some time. I don't have one that fits at the moment, but I'm going to snap up the next affordable well fitting one I come across.

I have a little collection of vests I love, from pinstripe to lacy. I wear them now and then as they suit my tomboy style. Even if they are not trending, they are flattering and add personality to my outfits. I do spend some time finding the right top in my wardrobe that will work best with the different necklines and stances – I like a relaxed look. I particularly love them with slouchy, tapered dressy slacks and cropped or rolled-up jeans with booties.

Looking forward to looking at your styling.
