Are denim pencil skirts making a comeback?

Denim pencil skirts hve not been much around for the past couple of years. But in the last couple of weeks I noticed them popping up everywhere. For example, on Shopbop:

August issue of Glamour magazine also shows denim skirts as one of the denim trends for the Fall 2014 season, but can't find the article online

Thoughts? Are they really coming back or is this just a fluke? I would be very happy if that is the case, as I like them and have saved one from a couple of years ago.

I think they are, Tanya.
I have a few midi length ones from Zara last season. They also have some on their website for this coming fall.
I do not think a pencil style goes out of style.

I'm not sure if they've ever really been out of style - a denim pencil skirt is a classic IMHO.

Oh for me that is a wardrobe must have. A staple. Mine is dark denim, so a little dressier.

Oh good! I love denim pencil skirts. I used to have two, about a decade ago, but they are long gone. I could use a new one.

Agree they are classics; I wear them a lot. Not only in classic blue, but also in colored denim like black, yellow, white and mint. They work for me in my mostly casual office...I am one of the more "dressed up" people wearing a black denim pencil skirt with a T and some sort of jacket. I noticed quite a few when I was looking at incoming fall items yesterday...saw at Loft, Talbots, even Old Navy and Gap.

I have a dark wash stretchy pencil that works well with my tops so this is good to hear. I'm wearing it now.

I'm laughing though because I purged a very 80's stretchy skirt that looks just like the first Refinery slide (minus the lacing). Same color and cut. I thought it was fun (thrifted for 35 cents) but too 13 year old.

rabbit, you and me, both -- I just "retired" my denim pencil skirt! But I wouldn't be against getting a new one. The one I had sort of bugged me with the fly front; I think my next one will be a bit different.

Thanks for this post. I have actually been looking for a pencil denim skirt in the past few days. Having trouble finding one...I'd be thrilled if I was getting a head of a trend, but honestly, I didn't realize they were "out". (I guess if one is running in a circle and go slow enough, eventually she will look like she's in first place. )

i'm really interested in this thread. I seem to always be buying a denim pencil skirt because I like the idea of one, then wearing it once and giving it away....only to repeat the cycle each time they return to being a current item. I find that every time I sit down in one, it ends up pushed up stiffly under my armpits (attractive image, I know) or lumped and bumped around my waist and hips (again attractive ) when the denim is softer. Does this mean I'm not getting the fit right? I find denim pencil skirts cut almost comically rectangular- so maybe that's another reason?

lisap -- have you tried one with a lot of spandex? Also a narrow at the hem one seems to avoid some of these issues for me.

I still have a couple of the more casual style denim skirts, shorter and with all the jeans detailing, which i still wear with t shirts on the weekend. But like Mary I culled my 'dressier' denim pencil skirt; I haven't really missed it a ton, maybe because woven pencil skirts always have a kind of bombshell vibe on my shape which I have to work to undo, since it's not really the style I'm going for.

I'll be interested to see how this trend goes this fall.

I hope they are back, as one is on my fall shopping list. I purchased one last year but after a few washings, the waist has stretched out - it's now way too big. I am looking for one of better quality this time around!

How fun to see all the enthusiasm for denim pencil skirts! If they are currently a fringe trend like Angie says, then I hope they become a full proper trend. I think I am going to spend some time looking for inspirations on how tow ear my old one in a current way.
