So beautiful ladies, thank you for your advice! I exchanged it for this blue jacket, and got the skirt too:

And I love it! It was well worth going back, because now I have a suit for the summer, and the skirt was really not expensive. The colour is bright but somehow it is something I can withstand, unlike B&W bold prints.

While I've seen more jackets in floral prints, I do not think the black and white leopard print is out. I've seen that print in too many other items, like sweaters, shoes, and outerwear for that to be the case. That's a lovely jacket btw!

I bought it on a whim on Friday... lots of $ for me... but from a store I trust for cuts and quality. My wardrobe desperately needs a new topper. not something flimsy. But trying it on at home I am not so sure anymore. The print is rather large on petite me (or maybe it is just that I have to get my eye adjusted)... and it is harder than I thought to actually build outfits with it because, precisely, of the print. And here I thought it would be one of those "work-horse" pieces, especially because of the print. I could always return it.

I don't think black & white prints are ever out. There's always a place for them in my closet. That said I have a personal allergy to animal prints in anything other than accessories and shoes. It's stuck in my mind that at my age (47) I don't want to look like a cougar. But that's me. And then again, I did just buy a black/grey/white animal print silk blouse, which I'm having no trouble wearing! I think maybe that works because it's not furry.

So your topper: gets points because it's floral, not animal print, and it's also not furry. I think it will work. Let's see it accessorized once you get it!

I like the jacket and don't think it's out of style. But the high contrast black and white might be too intense for your colouring? I'm not 100% sure about that (and you could probably work it anyway) but i know for me, it's tricky to wear a B&W print - especially a busy one -- near my face. Black OR white, yes -- maybe not my best colours, but do-able. B&W stripes -- maybe, if the scale is right. But B&W print? It's trickier for me.

It's a form of "stylized" animal print, which is kind of an interesting bird, er, animal. Although, I guess if you're the leopard, you would think all prints are stylized and not "realistic".

You just need to see if you like the color/contrast/size for you.

I'm not super loving it. To me it reads as much floral as leopard, and not necessarily in a good way. And it's definitely a very memorable piece so if you see the same people all the time and you will be wearing it a lot, you may end up as "the lady with the black and white leopard jacket," which may or may not be okay with you.

Have you tried styling it over a column of color per Angie's recent blog post? I think it would look good with a column of red, yellow, purple, and just about any other color. Suz makes excellent points about your coloring, so I'd take those into consideration, too.

Suz, you're on to something. I think that is part of the problem. It does look very edgy and classy on me, yet, the contrast is difficult to handle. I was just trying it on again thinking, "I am a softer kinda girl".

I don't think that pattern goes out of style, but when I saw it online (before I knew you bought it), I thought, Wow! That is some eye-catching blazer. I do think it would probably have the tendency to take over your outfit. It's going to be much more than that "pop" of color or edge that most of us are looking for.

Interesting. That it is an attention grabber doesn't bother me in the least! I love a good statement jacket and if I owned it, I wouldn't worry that others would get bored of it (if I didn't). It's only how it relates to Krish's personal colouring that makes me wonder -- and I think she could probably make it work brilliantly over a column of grey or black or navy...it's just a question of whether it would feel too "demanding" sometimes.

Krish, people had similar responses to a Club Monaco bomber I posted about. I never bought it. I'm sort of sorry I didn't, in the end...it is navy and white "zebra" print. Elizabeth P has it and it looks fantastic on her. I do think her colouring is better suited to its intensity, however.

I see that you have decided to take it back:) I was also unsure of the black white pattern with your colouring. I like to think that animal print is one of those always in style type things as long as we ensure the actual garment is current and up todate. I have a black and white Zebra jacket that will be working its way through 2014:) I just think there might be something better out there for you.

You might like a more classic animal print better, with its warmer tones and gradations of color.

Thanks for your replies! I forgot to mention the colour of the jacket and skirt which finally came home with me: it's the turquoise-blue one. Very bright, but goes well with my coloring. The type of colour that wakes you up, you know? I think I'll be able to work it with a lot of stuff this spring. I can'T wear it now, it is too Spring-y, and temp, outside presently is -12...
