I find them unbearable with a power surge moment- they don't breathe like wool. I can only wear a blend of acrylic/ cotton, or similar, and then only on very cold days. I like the durability of acrylic, and lots can be found at a lower price, but madly ripping off a sweater is just not graceful!!
For the most part I find acrylic sweaters to be uncomfortable and not warm. However, in sturdier chunky knits they can be surprisingly warm--I have a 100% acrylic sweatercoat that gets tons of wear because it's so cozy. And I can toss it in both the washer and dryer without worry.
I actually find acrylic a little too warm sometimes, but clearly I'm in the minority. You'll be a lot happier with the wear on a wool sweater though, Rachy. Signed, The K.
I think they're quite warm, often too warm for me. I tend to avoid them for that reason, actually, and the fact they pill easily. Blends can be ok though.
No, not warm. Soft but not durable. The few I've tried pill a lot. I don't know why designers are using so much acrylic today... probably because it's cheaper than natural fibers. Unless you're looking for quickly disposable fashion, I would avoid acrylic.
I do find that 100% acrylic is warm also. Maybe it depends on the thickness? I have a thick 100% acrylic cardigan that is very warm. It is warm because it is a synthetic and does not breathe very well, so it traps your body heat. However, that can make some people (like me) sweat, so I don't generally wear it. Also, it is super staticky and does pill quite bad. I greatly prefer wool.
I hate acrylic for myself. It makes me sweat like crazy yet isn't that warm. I am glad to see that I'm not alone in this. But if it works for you, it's certainly a much cheaper option for stylish chunky sweaters. I just get so frustrated by how hard it is to avoid these days.
