Apropos of Shannon's post: ye olde tiered dress: once trendy, now...? And more!

This is the ChaChaVente dress Rae found as a substitute for the Bailey 44 tiered dress. It was a YLF lemming item. It is still current? Dated? Meh?

Next up: I got this NYDJ shirt at Nordstrom, not on sale, but the pattern appealed and it's the kind of "easy" item I love for work. However, in the interest of edging it up, I wore it with a Helmut Lang leather pencil skirt and studded flats, then changed to skinnies for dinner at a friends. What say you - current or Not Your Great-Granddaughter's Outfit? The skirt is all crushed up from sitting all day - I promise it's not that tight! Any idea how to unwrinkle leather?

And finally, this Banana Republic linen dress went on sale in this color, and I snapped. It can also be worn open as a long topper, or with skinnies per the reviews. Thoughts? This is a 4 and is more fitted than it looks here. And it has pockets.

Una, the ChaCha Vente dress I would suggest is still current, particularly if you are living in Australia! Metalicus has just released the very same dress in a black and white!! I think it's sold out.

I don't mind the shirt but you know I am a bit of a pattern-a-phobe. It does look a bit busy to my eye but that's me. I think it's ok but it doesn't read as being strongly 'your style' to me.

I love the linen dress! Great colour and so easy to wear.

I was eyeing that shirt dress yesterday too - but figured it might be too short. Love it on you. Re the dress? In all honesty - kinda meh. And I bought a pencil skirt version of this in the spring and never wore it. Tags still on. Nothing wrong with it, per se, but here we go again with an identifiable trendy design detail co opted at all price points .

Dress - current. In fact Angie did a post on diagonal stripes recently and your dress actually looks fabulous.

Shirt - Does not look dated to me...I have a similar one in black and white print so I might not be the best one to comment! Though I think its versatile...looks equally good with the white jeans and leather skirt.

No worries - the first dress feels meh to me too now, but that could be because I'm sick of black. And it gets compliments all the time.

First, every time I see your hair, I love it even more and I loved it the first time!
The top, in the just right print size and color, is a keeper and I like it with your leather skirt. I really don't see the creases and hanging it will help.
Same yes for the red dress; the color, cut and hem are gorgeous on you.
I'm feeling a bit like Lisa with the first dress and had a similar top in red and black stripes that I never wore and eventually sold. Maybe I'm with you on wanting color at the moment.

I really like the first dress on you. I would venture to say the trend is over, but it still looks current to me.
The print top seems a little bit of a departure for you, but you've made it your own by pairing it with the leather skirt and the distressed jeans. I also think the fact that the print is a little abstract is more "you" than, say, a foulard print would be in that same style. I like the way the print plays with your new hair color, too.
Love the red linen dress! What a great find. I would definitely try it as a topper and with skinnies, too--how fun!

Thanks, Sharan. Every now and then I see a print that speaks my Indian side which favors bright "ethnic" patterns. That is how this was, eapecially because it's shaped like a kurti.

Wow, the new shirt dress is gorgeous! And I would keep the old Baileys one, too!!! Beeing monochromatically striped, and edgily wrapped it still looks current and edgy to me -esp with the loafers. Love both incarnations of the "easy" shirt, too:-).

The top is not one I would have selected for you...That said, you have styled it with your own style and it looks wonderful...I like the day to night looks that you selected...
The red dress is TDF...I also like the stripe...

I love the top with the white jeans best. To me the proportions look off with the skirt but maybe because it is a little wrinkled and bunchy? But I love that orangey BR dress -- so fantastic.

Would you really wear that dress open as a topper? I just can't bring myself to do the long topper thing, I don't know why. Maybe it's too arty for me? Will you wear it open one day so I can see it that way?

I agree with Viva on the red dress and the top -- I like the top better with distressed jeans than the skirt.

I still have my B44 striped tiered dress, although mine is that dark plum color and of course longer. This may be the one and only dress that somehow works on both you and me, despite our very different body types! I didn't wear mine much last winter, but I didn't wear ANY of my dresses last winter. I think it's because I spent so much time in Texas. I really need to start factoring that into my shopping habits -- I don't get as much wear out of my decent clothes when I'm spending time on the ranch. Anyway, I am keeping my striped dress because I still think it's pretty flattering and it's current enough. I have to be in the right mood to wear it, but when I am, I enjoy it. I have a hard enough time finding dresses that are long enough and fit my body and my casual style that I'm loathe to give one up just because it's not the newest thing out there. So, bottom line, do you enjoy wearing it? If not, then out it goes.

Janet, good points! I am not tired of the style (it's a variation for me because its more body-con). But I am so sick of black! I wish it were another color, even ink. I did sell my purple one as it fit more tightly and I felt self-conscious. You always look great in yours and its such a forgiving style... I may give this one up but keep eyes open for a better cut and color.

I like the dress. Clueless about whether it's out of style, but it does seem somewhat out of season. Doesn't scream "summer" to me, maybe bench it for autumn? Loving printed blouse with the leather skirt and the red shirt dress.

I have a Bailey 44 dress which I love but don't often wear. I am determined to cling on to mine for the occasional va va voom look!!

All these items look great to me.

The dress is actually orange! It's a true cool orange which is the only shade that works for me. :). I'm wearing it today and making peace with the crease.

Appropio, you are right about summer looks but here that's a very artificial line because of the temps. I could wear boots and a cashmere sweater in July and no one would bat an eye unless it was a real 80 degree day! Sad, really.
