Apology to YLF and Angie

I would like to publicly apologize to Angie and YLF members for my WIW post this morning. Although the commentary regarding my outfit and why I chose it is fine and warranted, the negative comments regarding my co-worker were not.

In no way would I ever want to make Angie or anyone else uncomfortable and would certainly NEVER want to show YLF in a negative light. One of the things I appreciate the most on this forum is the kindness, constructive commentary, and polite manners exhibited at all times.

I appreciate all of your support but from this point forward, will not be mentioning any direct comments from work. I have also requested to have the thread removed from the forum.

We're just sorry that you have to work with her.

I love that you stretch yourself and try new things every day. Apparently she does not. I wonder if there is a way to tactfully ask her to keep her opinions to herself?

Shannon, I appreciate your sentiments. I don't feel there's any reason for you to apologize - it sounds like you are getting genuine grief for how you choose to dress, and that aspect is certainly a topic worth discussing here.

I try to refrain from too much negativity only because I get enough of it at work myself with my clients and their situation.

If anyone is at fault it would be us for (perhaps clumsily) trying to defend you. I think many of us have used the forum as a refuge or sounding board when someone has commented negatively about our outfits. And truly, your patience is sorely tested in that situation and I honestly you are dealing with something well out of the bounds of ordinary.

It's not just about the negativity. As Angie so kindly and wisely pointed out to me, this is a public forum and there is always the chance that someone we may be speaking about in an unkind way will end up seeing those comments in the big wide cyber world. I would never want anything I say to come back and cause greater difficulties for me, any other member of YLF, and especially not Angie (or Greg for that matter). This place is too important to me.

Shannon, that is quite true. I would be concerned about that with the Redneck Paralegal, except that I call him that in person too. It's a joke between us, and believe me, he has some choice nicknames for me too!

Understood, obviously I should have read this comment before I posted. I don't think I said anything about her, except that it was exceptionally rude and inappropriate to call anyone a "hot mess" that you don't have an extremely close personal relationship that includes friendly joking/teasing . . . and even then I would question doing it at work.

You looked great today, i think you put together a very rich combination of colors, textures, and pattern and it was inspiring-- and trendy but classic. Perhaps you could re-post just a WIW?

Shannon, I don't think you have anything to applogize for-your coworker was very rude without a question. I honestly don't know why in the world she would think that your outfit was a mess because I think it lookes great and mix of colors is awesome!

I disappeared to Niagara Falls for a few days and I missed the whole thing!

If you feel you owe Angie and Greg an apology, so be it Shannon. I agree that any negative comments can wind up easily accessed online, exposing conflicts that one or both parties may wish to keep private.

I DO understand how frustrating it can be to deal with difficult people, though. Hopefully the situation at work will improve, or barring that, hope you can handle it painlessly!

Yes, I see your point about public access and getting personal, and appreciate how you can feel less than fabulous about that post --- even though I completely understand the frustration that led to it, which was just a mindboggling level of (er, trying to be objective and charitable) nonplussedness that would have tried a saint's sanity!

I admire your courage, forthrightness and generosity of spirit. It takes confidence and self-respect and class to buck the trend and look fabulous --- and even more confidence and self-respect and class to step back and take our own worse instincts in hand.

Angie is lovely to keep things so positive. Shannon, I hope you are able to take the good from the bad and hear how strongly we support you... although yes, maybe we shouldn't so angrily drag down the ones we hear about who so verbally don't!

While I don't regret anything I wrote (I guess I just feel very strongly about calling a spade a spade and letting people know when their behavior is so fantastically out of line), I am sorry that it has made you uncomfortable, and I will try to remember this in the future.

Yes, you are right that part of the magic of this place is the positive and friendly attitude. Maybe that makes me all the more shocked by remarks that are NOT framed in a positive and friendly way. :T

I appreciate your apology - very dignified.
Whenever we change & step outside the norm, even if it is to become more stylish, I think a natural fear is "how will people react?"
What I like about your coworker stories is that you face negative reactions in reality and rise above it, continuing to become *even more* stylish, and it helps me to read that, and see all the support for you here. You are an inspiration.
