anyone want to help me shop for boots?

I think I know what I want to buy by Christmas, and one pair will be black ankle boots. I have these picked out. Please let me know which ones you would choose that you think a) look the best, and b) are the most likely to work with bootcuts, skinnies, and skirts/dresses.

I think the Vanelli will be the most versatile and flattering on petite you. Of course, I am also a fan of the Lucky's.

The rest are nice but a bit more on the "looks like a comfort shoe" spectrum.

I like the Luckys too, but will you wear this kind of boot with the skirts and dresses you have? You can, but it's a certain look. I agree the Vanelis are the most versatile of the bunch, but I have to say I do not like whatever is going on with that front ribbing situation...

The Lucky's interest me the least just because I'm not sure I want a cowboy look for my black ones. I'll be getting some cowboy-ish boots that are gray, and I still dream of apple green ones someday. That seems like enough cowboy boots to me.

Brenda, no advice to offer, but I'll be reading eagerly and watching what you try. Speaking for myself, I'm still terrified by booties worn with skirts, period. I mean on me. I just don't know if I can carry it off with my shortish legs, even with matching tights. So whatever tips and pointers YOU get will be excellent for me, too. I think what Elly might have been pointing to is the fact that the vamp is just a bit lower on the Vanelli. I can imagine that might make some difference; the others might look "overgrown" somehow on a smaller woman? Not sure.

Suz, I have the same concern about the short boots with skirts. I also have short legs and don't know if I can pull it off. And if it's cold enough for short boots, it's usually cold enough for knee high boots and I'd usually chose those instead. But I'm thinking I'd like to have the option if possible... just to shake things up a bit.

I'm going to assume that few want to help because my choices are poor. It's hard for me to sort through boots because I need something I can actually walk in. So many have skinny heels and I can see my black and blue ankles before even trying them on.

I think part of the problem is that it is really hard to find boots that work with everything. I've found that with my leopard booties - they are too flat to work with skinnies as I'd hoped. Did you see the expensive pair I posted earlier? That is a style that I think will go with a lot of looks - maybe you can find something similar but not so pricey?

Another thought - if you're truly drawn to those edgier moto boot styles (right up my alley!), I would take some time to think about why and whether you're moving in a new direction. Are you wanting them as a contrast to your more feminine style, or are you generally wanting to go more RATE? I've seen you post quite a few different moto boots that make me think you are secretly an Urban Warrior Princess!

I don't know what it is about moto boots that keep calling me, but they do. Maybe I am wanting a bit of an edge added to my look. I dream of lace up Doc Martens.... not exactly feminine but sound so cool.

I'm thinking I'll need to go with 2 pairs... a cool moto style for jeans, and a sleeker look for skirts. Though part of me thinks skip the short boots for skirts and just use knee high boots for those. That would allow me to go for something that would look really good with jeans rather than trying to find a "jack of all trades" boot.

Without looking at the other comments, I think the Lucky Brands and the Clark's Daras will work best at moving between pants and skirts. Because the shaft comes up higher, you don't get the awkward gap around the smallest part of your ankle.

Ooh, just saw the Zodiac ones... they remind me a bit of my burgundy boots that I wear with skirts. I think you definitely need a bit of heel to be able to move between all those different types of bottoms.

I like them all with pants. If you are planning to wear them with both pants and skirts, I would go with any except the last one. You'll probably need black opaque hose to make them work with skirts.

I am wearing my clark's booties for the first time this year. They are last year's model so I don't see them anywhere but they are kind of like this one:

I love the zodiacs, they are perfect motg boots. Theyre great for pants, skinnys, bootcuts, etc... It would be tough to make them work with skirts.

That's perfect, then. I love them too and they will work great with pants. I'll get other boots for skirts.
