Anyone interested in checking out jewelry show in Seattle (11/22)?

Hi Everyone,
This may be of interest to Seattle area YLF-ers. In comments to Angie’s post about shopping for fashion jewelry in Hong Kong some people mentioned having good luck finding interesting pieces/materials at bead and jewelry shows. I looked up a schedule for the gem and jewelry shows and there will be one in Seattle center this weekend, Nov. 21-23 (http://www.jewelrymall.com/gemshows.html). I am thinking about going. Does anyone have any experience with such shows and knows what to expect? My motivation for checking it out is to find an interesting statement necklace. The admission is $7. If anyone else is interested, maybe we could coordinate getting together, say on a Saturday.

Hi Anya. I went to several gemshows when I was in high school. From what I remember, you can expect to see unfinished stones, strands of gemstones, strands of pearls, beads, complete jewelery, some figurines and sculptures, and even meteorite fragments. It's a great place to buy supplies if you make your own jewelery. Or you can pick what you want and later take it to somebody who knows how to put things together. I also think you can find terrific statement pieces there. Prices range from all over the place, I remember seeing some very expensive strands. I don't know about quality control, however.

(I still have simple strands of stones I got because I can't decide what to do with them).

It can be a little overwhelming at first, it's fun when your eye adjusts a bit. I'd definitely suggest taking your time.

Hi everyone, here’s a quick report from Seattle’s jewelry show this weekend – I did come back with a pretty necklace (see pix below). The price was reasonable, plus today was the show’s last day, so they were willing to bargain. Lena was absolutely right – about two thirds of the show were loose beads and stone strands, another third – gem stones/precious jewelry, so only a few stands had actual fashion jewelry. Unless I take up beading, I will probably forgo the show in the future, but I am happy with my necklace purchase.

Lena, i was thinking about wearing it with some solid-color tops (turtlenecks, cardis) in complementary colors. Of course, i've been stuck home with a cold for the last three days in my sweatpants... I finally did venture out today, wearing this with the necklace:
