Anyone here ever have a roomba?

We are contemplating a roomba. DD is beyond terrified of the vacuum. We usually have to hide with her in a bedroom, with a box fan on full blast, while the other one quick vacuums. Even then, DD is so super cautious to go back out of our room. Honestly, for the few hours I get with her a night, I don't want to spend any of them with her in fear if I can help it.

So, we are contemplating a roomba to vacuum while we are at work. Just wondering if anyone here has ever had one and if they would recommend it.

We have one. With a cat and dog, it is no substitute for a real vacuum but it keeps things in control until we can get to a real cleaning. We also have central vac which is great.

Have you tried letting her use the vacuum for a sense of control?

I have one and love it. The suction isn't as good as a manual vacuum but I think it makes up for it by reaching under tables and chairs that I would miss. You can get a discounted (older) model from sites like woot and (probably) overstock.

AG - She won't even go near the closet it is kept in. Although maybe we can offer it to her and see if she will give it a try. No idea why she is so afraid of it. She is also terrified of lawn mowers.Those, at least, were easy to avoid in the winter.

We have the latest one. It is more a toy for my husband than something I think we need. The new model works way better than the first generation but is a bit pricey. Either is great though. I say go for it for the time savings, spending time with DD is more important than perfectly clean carpets IMO.

I don't have one, but do you have a dog or cat? If so, look up videos on youtube. I've seen great ones of cats riding it around, and a horrible one of a dog mess gone bad.

It sounds like a great idea to me. Like AG mentions it could tide you over until you can do a bigger clean - or in your case until DD is out for a walk or a play somewhere.

We have one. I think it's the 770? We got it to help out but then ended up with a cleaner biweekly. We still use it on the main floor in between cleanings - not perfect but does a good basic job. With our daughter (4) we treat it like a pet and talk to it. She still doesn't like to get too close but she'll be in the same room.

We got one and it is great to pick up cat's hair in between weekly cleaning but it will not substitute for a real vacuum.

We had the same problem with our 2 year old. We splurged on a really quiet Miele and vacuum when he is in bed. I clean the room he is sleeping in when he is in the bath with dad.

My sister gave me her's because she didn't like it. I don't like it either. With animals it becomes a toy!

We have one..bought it maybe 4 years ago and I have never liked it. It kept getting stuck or would run out of battery, even though we charged all night...it also fell down the stairs on a couple of occasions because we didn't put the sensors out correctly. Our dog would follow it around and bark at it. Our little dog recently jumped on it and rode on it while barking...LOL ! My husband pretended to love it. But when I bought a Dyson he started forgetting about the roomba altogether. It was a lot of work ! hahaha. But we didn't have children who were scared of animals. So for me, the amount of work it took to "supervise" the roomba wasn't worth it when I could just use that time actually vacuuming.

I had one, but Baby's hairs are so long (up to 10") that they would jam up the works and the amount of time I spent picking and unwinding hair out of the works was ridiculous. So I gave it away. Other than that it was fine!

I had a similar device, but a cheap knockoff version, from DH as a Christmas present last Dec. (I really need to talk to him about giving me electrical applicances !)
Waste of time.
Didn't work very well at, all, got stuck all the time, difficult to charge and then stopped working - all in the first month or so.

I have one and it is a great way to keep the dust level down. I haven't been running it lately and have noticed more dust in the house.

Well my nephew was terrified of the blender until recently. We would joke about it - "pick up your toys right now or I'll MAKE A SMOOTHIE!"....

I havr blender and vac and pressure cooker terrors here too. to be fair I am as terrified of the cooker as the tot is.

and yes the roomba equivalent from eureka forbes we have helps. that and a swiffer and a steam mop... and a tiny rechargeable handheld for quick and short exposures seema to have helped a bit. now we can at least vacuum the living room or bedroom while he watches throigh the doorway as the other parent feeds him etc. meaning he still won't be on the floor but at least is ok if it is in a separate enough space and high up in arms or chair. but the robo vac he chases around like a lost pup... at a safeish distance
