Anyone been to Talbots lately?

I've been reading Angie's blog and the forum since early spring and have learned so much from all of you talented and beautiful women. I love how supportive and helpful everyone is. Thanks to all of you for the time and effort, especially Angie and Greg. I just joined the forum a week or so ago and wanted to get some input from you.

I just received a Talbots catalog and they seem to have changed in a big way and I was wondering if anyone has been there lately and tried some of their stuff. I like how they have many color choices for most of their items. It's frustrating when there is only a color or two for a great item because invariably it doesn't suit me. I also noticed they have most of their items in petite sizes, which I need for jackets, dresses, and skirts. I'm 5'2" and 49 years old, but still like to look pulled together and fashionable. I'm also wondering about fabric quality and fit so I'd love some feedback from anyone who might know. Thanks!

I was in Talbots a couple of weeks ago looking for a pencil skirt and pants that aren't jeans. I thought the quality was fine. I bought a very nice pair of cream cord pants that I've worn many times already and am very happy with. I may go back for a pair of grey side zip pants .

I'm between a 2 and 4 in pants and skirts and between XS and S on top. At Talbots the 2's and XS's were what I needed.

Thanks Joy! The info is just what I needed especially your comment on fit because I think we are about the same size. The cream cords sound nice, I might have to try those.

I use to love Talbots, especially the sales, but then I thought they went way down hill.......until this fall. I thought their catalogue was beautiful. I stopped in and bought a denim pencil skirt, which I love, and I saw several other things I would like to try when I get a chance to shop again. I've always thought their clothes were high quality.

I’m in Talbots a lot this season. Their quality is great and their design team is new. I am constantly finding items that are great for clients. Go for it.

I think they have definitely improved this season, although I wish my local store had too. There's still too much preppy casual there, but the stuff in the catalog looks amazing!

Susan-I had the same thoughts, I was so impressed with their catalog. A dark denim pencil skirt is on my wish list. I went online to look for it but didn't find it so I'll have to go to my local store and see if they have it.

Angie-I hope they stick with their new team and I'm glad to know you've found many items to fit your clients.

KristenKP-I haven't been to my local store yet, I hope it has a lot of the stuff that has caught my eye in the catalog.

I popped in there - very quickly- the other day and tried on this jacket, in petites:

Fit really well, quality was quite nice. Skipped it because the orange isn't my best color. Unfortunately, the closest Talbots to me tends to cater more towards a 60+ demographic - so their offerings will be skewed more towards what flatters someone with silver hair. But now you have me surfing on their site.... and I'm seeing some very nice jackets and coats..... that I didn't see in my local Talbots...... hmmmmmmm....

Oh and I also saw this GORGEOUS red patent bag there. I was highly tempted by it, because the red was just the right shade, a shade I've been looking for forever. Hmmmm.....

I am very glad to hear they are still alive and kicking. I used to be a big Talbot's devotee long ago, as they were one of the first to offer petites. In recent years they went sideways for awhile and lost my interest completely. But I am glad to see they have a new designer and are coming back strong!

Shiny, I tried on that same jacket, and loved it. It is my color but I was going to wait until the price went down a bit. Of course now I don't even see my size on the website so I may have missed my moment. Ooops! I'll check the store again to see if they still have it...

Was it the domed satchel in red that you were looking at? I have one in black from my F&T days which I use incessantly, so that shape may not be best for me.

Yes! That's the bag. I promised only one bag this season (with exception of a clutch, which I will need for two upcoming special occasions). But I'm still tempted.

I can totally see you in the plaid asymmetrical jacket, and I think the wrap shirt would also be great on you and would work for the reunion.
The multi-strand pearls are beautiful, but the last webpage is acting weird and won't download the photo so I can't compare the two.

I'm not so hot on the crinkled patent leather jacket, I think because I am so used to seeing that texture on a purse or shoes than a whole jacket. The blood red color is stunning, though.

I LOVE the notched low collar of the twill jacket, although I prefer the green probably for myself. Do you think you could pull off that green? It's a deep jeweled tone not dissimilar from the cobalt blues you've been sporting successfully...

Hmmmm.... you are such an enabler, Kristen! I will give it a day to think about, but I think I may just give that plaid jacket and the blouse a shot.

As for the green twill, at least as it looks online, I am fairly sure it isn't a green I could pull off. About 5 years ago Talbots had a lot in this shade, and I adored it. On sale I bought a cute green sweater in this shade. Everytime I try to wear it, something feels wrong to me - it seems to suck the color out of my face for some weird reason. I have yet to toss that one out though. Probably should. It's my "wishful thinking" sweater. Sigh.

I "lucked" out; the green twill jacket and another in a heathered blue are on back order. So I can't indulge even if I wanted to! ;-D

(And I do really want to. I have my finger on the checkout button at the Lane Bryant and the Gap sites...)

I hit Talbots quickly today, and tried on the organza top, but in black (they didn't have the white). It's gorgeous, very well made, etc. Pure silk organza. Yummy! I'm thinking - even if I don't wear it to the reunion - it's a potential "investment" piece.

They did not have any of the other items in the store, incl the plaid jacket.

Going to sleep on it though.

I was just going to chime in and say that while most of those links are lovely, the organza wrap top is divine indeed! But you've already decided that anyway - yay!!
