any recs for giant floppy hats for giant heads?

Every summer, I try in vain to find a big floppy straw hat. The problem is that I have an enormous head by normal women's standards. It's around 23" circumference which is the upper limit for a women's L at LL Bean. Most more fashiony hats are one size fits all and almost all too small. A men's hat would work but men don't usually wear the style I want (straw hat, wide, floppy brim). Anyone with a similarly giant head have any suggestions?

LOL! I'm not laughing at you but with you. I too have a giant head by normal standards. I refer to it as my Giant Pumpkin Head. Hats never fit me unless they're adjustable.

Does Lane Bryant sell hats? They just may be in larger sizes but I'm not sure.

Teeandcee: I just checked and the one floppy hat I found at Lane bryant says 20" so I guess their hats are not "plus size".

I am actually considering knitting/crocheting one although I'm sure working with straw or raffia will be unpleasant.

Ha, Diana. You and I can trade and share hats (if we ever find any that fit!). I love how the Ted Baker specs mention "one size fits most." Blah.

There is a specialty hat store here in JP. I doubt they have our size, but I will ask them if they have any suggestions. That hat sure would look cute on you.

I'll try to find a link when I get to a computer, but I have a floppy hat that works for my big noggin. It velcros, so it's adjustable, and rolls up to throw on your bag. The top is open, but it passes my teenager's approval for non dorkiness.

LOL I sympathize, but in the opposite direction! I have a freakishly small head. I can often fit into children's hats. :-/

Another giant head here - 22.5". I have nothing to suggest, but I give my sympathies. :T

I found my sun hat by doggedly trying every hat I came across at the swap meet.

I also have a big head. I just try everything on in the stores. I got one that fit from Banana Republic of all places.

Traci, I haven't seen that style before. Does your hair get caught in the velcro?

Also don't even try Eugenia Kim or Helen Kaminski. Both make amazing hats, but they don't fit my noggin.

I guess Team Big Head has lots of players--count me in too!! I am afraid to measure mine, but I know it's big (forget "one size fits all" hats--HA). Good luck with your quest!

You might want to try a Wallaroo hat. Their women's hats have an internal drawstring and fit up to a 22 5/8" head size. The men's styles go up to 23 7/8".

I've bought the Victoria style for myself and given them as gifts to my daughters-in-law and my sister. Our head sizes range from very small to very large and we have all been able to fit the same hat using the drawstring. The styles are quite varied and the quality is excellent.

This is a helpful thread! my head's about regularly sized, but i have to try on about 50 hats before i find one that looks good. I wear hats a Lot, as i am very fair, so i understand the frustration factor.

We have a few Tula brand hats in the family. They're very well made and come in a variety of really flattering designs.

The Ava is big, not so floppy, but is meant to sit up on the crown and stays on with an elastic you nestle under your hair at the nape:

Some of the styles come in a variety of sizes, you have to check the info on each style. More of the unisex and men's styles come in larger sizes, but their standard medium fits a 22" head. They seem to run larger than a lot of hats out there. Goorin has different sizes but i've yet to see one of their hats with a large brim.

Also, if you can get to a store specializing in hats you will have better luck. here in the east bay we have berkeley hats on telegraph:
