Any news on Shiny?

I know some of the members are close to Shiny, I miss her posts, do you know if she's okay?

I have seen her post on occasion but much less frequently. I am not sure what the reason is.

I was also wondering how Tam is doing in Melbourne. Miss seeing her outfits and posts as well.

So, I have been posting here since 2008 and on the blog since 2006, and if there is one thing I can say with certainty, it's that people will come and go, and it is usually very abrupt and without any explanation. I have become very conscious of the fact that all the people I used to chat with when I first signed up are almost entirely gone which makes me feel both very good because I'm glad to support YLF, and very bad because it must mean I am a huge dork with no other excitement in my life!

I was literally just thinking about this today! Some others I haven't seen around - Shell (did she already get married??), Danja, Dani, Ana (miss her outfit posts though I have seen a post or two otherwise). Shiny's outfit posts are usually my favorite because she is also petite, primarily modern classic and has a similar body type to mine (except I'm several sizes bigger!) so I used to copy her looks all the time.

And Antje, though I know Antje is dealing with a repetitive stress condition and trying to reduce her keyboard time.

Miss Patience too, though I remember how hard it is to get much done with a baby in the house. The first time I ever clicked on a photo on the forum, it was of Patience trying on a leather jacket. The whole concept -- snapping photos from, I think, a fitting room -- was new to me and I found it fascinating. Also, the jacket looked totally great.

Shiny, you're the forum's petite role model. Don't leave us!

I think remember Shiny mentioning at one point that after years of telecommuting that she would have to go back into the office regularly. So maybe it's a time thing. I miss the Shiny pose!

I think for some folks, life happens. With others, I wonder if they have "graduated" and no longer need advice/feedback on clothing choices etc. After all, they seem to have a well developed sense of style, exquisite wardrobes and excellent taste. We oooh and ahhh over their outfit posts but there's not as much back and forth as with others who are at the start or in the midst of their fashion journeys. Of course, these outfit posts are so essential and inspiring for those of us who are still trying to get there!

I also miss Shiny, Dani, Nicole and many others. Does anyone know if Tanya moved and started her new job? I was just thinking about that.

I was wondering about Shiny too. I miss her great outfits.

Maya - you are my touchstone. I know anytime I log in to YLF, you'll have an interesting, totally honest, and often funny observation or question.

I'm not posting as much because of a few reasons, partly because my drop in income (thank you, horrible economy) has made it not so much fun to think about all the wonderful clothes I can't afford anymore. Every time Angie posts about some fab pair of boots (hello, Frye Carson) or shoes, I want them, and that's dangerous right now. It's certainly not because I've suddenly become a confident fashion plate! (Although I really do think I know what I like now, which is a vast improvement.)

But I do lurk and I still get inspired by you all, even if I don't comment a lot. I hope I'm still a YLFer!

I miss them all too. Remember that many ladies read but do not comment. I have a few explanations. Tanya's laptop died and then she moved to Maryland only a few days ago. Chaos! Shiny needs to take some personal time but is on the mend. Ana started a stressful school year and is helping her best friend arrange a wedding. And that's all my news!

Awww, I miss you guys sooo much! I still lurk everyday but life is very hectic at this point and I'm not able to spend as much time on my wardrobe (or commit to giving feedback to others) as I would like. I had a rough ending to last year and am still trying to get my feet back under me.

Like Tara, I still consider myself a YLFer and hope to get back to contributing regularly at some point. I definitely read the blog every day and drool over many outfits I see posted here. I've learned so much from Angie and everyone else and continue to do so daily!

I've been wondering about Shiny, Dani, Brianna and Tam. Dani, good to hear from you. Hang in there. Did Shell get married? I miss Ana and Nicole and Antje, too.

I dropped out of the forum for several months, and I honestly don't remember why I didn't say anything. I had full intention of posting again at some point. I was dealing with family things and got extremely superstitious about writing and also felt a little guilty for spending time on myself. In hindsight, I'm sorry I didn't say anything because I knew I could count on your support.

Maya, I always look forward to reading your comments.

Lena, I hope I didn't make you feel guilty or bad! I was just saying that, in a matter-of-fact sort of way, that it is very common in any sort of online community for people to up and go. Real life takes over, their interests have changed, or maybe they just got all they needed to get out of the experience, and they just abruptly let go. In a way that's a good thing--no pressure, no obligation. While it's sad that some members just left and never returned (like Nicole), there have been more than enough awesome new members that I have been more than happy to get to know (Michelle, Marianna, and Julie--I'm looking at you!).

Most of the time when someone just drops off the forum without any reason, I assume it's none of my business...because it isn't. It's times like that when I become very conscious of the distinction between "real" relationships and cyber relationships. As loving as this community is, that distinction is very real.

I won't go into this extensively, but based on the few meetups I have had with other YLFabbers (and the next batch of meetups I have scheduled in the future...as in a week from today!), I can honestly say that meeting in person is such a different experience. We discuss way more than fashion and style, including things that I normally wouldn't feel comfortable discussing even in a private message or email, but somehow being face-to-face makes it more acceptable. I feel like I sort of "bonded" especially well with Tanya and Angie (both of whom I have met twice), in a way that just isn't possible when you're communicating online. I feel like meeting them and talking with them in such a personal way has really integrated them into my life. I don't mean to trivialize the amazing friendships I have formed here, but I do have to distinguish them from my "real" relationships.

I know what you mean about the distinction between online and real life relationships. Nod, nod. Plus then there are those incredible lucky times when you can combine the two. I was able to meet two of my "internet" acquaintances, and one of them just blew me away (in a good way). I've also tried hard to cultivate several online friendships for last few years, but yes, it's not very fulfilling without meeting in person. I still hope to do so one day. And to meet Angie and YLF posters.

Hee, I can spill so much in writing. Much more easily than face to face.

Angie, I meant on 2 occasions (once at the great YLF convention of '09, and again this year).

I would love to do a YLF tour of the world! I would start in Boston and hit up all the New England ladies, head down to NY and hang out with Shana, Bella, and April, travel down south to stop in Maryland where Tanya currently resides, and then in NC where Jenny and Rose met, continue into Florida to see Vani, onward to Austin with Ana, Patience, and Sarah, then to Arizona with Kyle and Leslie, up through California to meet Taylor, Cathy, Tara, LoP, and Srujana, then to Oregon for Lena, and then to Seattle which is basically YLF headquarters--I'd have to stay at least a few days to meet everyone there! After that, it would be up to Vancouver to meet Brianna, then to Toronto to see Michelle (and Renata I think?). I'd round out my North American tour with a stop in Chicago to hang out with Marianna, Kristen, Laura, and Hanna. Then I'd be off to O'Hare to catch a flight to Portugal where Rute would take me shoe shopping, then to Belgium for waffles with Inge, and finally to the UK for tea with Ele, Dawn, Julie, and Karin.

If I missed anyone, it's either because it's past 1:00 and I'm sleepy, or because I don't know where you live!

One day, when I'm a billionaire jetsetter...

Oh! I forgot the Aussie YLFabbers. Obviously we would need an Australian tour as well, although I don't know precisely where all the Aussies live--just that Tam now lives in Melbourne.

I'm very glad to hear that Angie is up on how most people are doing, and of course everyone has to do what's best for themselves at any given time. Just know, those of you who aren't able to post at the moment, that you are missed.

I guess I'm one of the newbies who stuck around. I found YLF this past summer and have completely fallen in love with the blog and forum and I *do* feel an e-connection with many of the ladies on the forum, and of course those who I have met in real life (Kim, Srujana, Lisa, Cathy). I agree with Maya that discussions surpass fashion when you meet forum members IRL. It's also interesting to note that I felt no awkwardness when meeting any lovely YLF ladies, we all seemed to bond instantaneously.

YLF has been a very welcome distraction for me. I stumbled upon the forum right after graduating university and being stuck in the tough job market. I've spent countless hours on YLF instead of sitting around and sulking in my boredom. *happy sigh*

Maya, your plan sounds absolutely awesome. We really, really, really need to brainstorm a nationwide YLF convention. Sooooon.
