Any luck getting errant dye out?

My new fuschia cropped jacket got some dark dye on it in the wash (I haven't even worn it yet!). I'm not sure what it's from since I tested all the new stuff before I put it in the washer and none of it bled in the sink, grr..

Anyway, does anybody have any fabulous methods for getting out spots of dye that aren't supposed to be there? If not, what darkish color can I dye it that won't look goofy with the fuschia centers on the buttons?

Oh, no! Dusty, could it be something in the dryer (like a crayon)? I'd try washing it again after letting some oxiclean set on the spot, but it doesn't sound promising. If you need to dye it, would dark purple work?

So sorry! what a pain! What I've done is soak it till the cows come home. I soak it with some gentle detergent (woolite) in the water for a very long time and put stain remover on the spots (Oxi Clean works great). I've sometimes soaked things multiple times this way and sometimes it has worked. How many spots are we talking and how big?

I have this problem right now with a dress of my daughter's! Some mysterious black dye got on it in the wash. My sister told me about a product, from Shout!, I believe. I can't remember the exact name, but it looks like a dryer sheet. It does in the wash and is supposed to remove the dye. How it knows what to remove, I don't know. She said she's sometimes had to go through the process more than once, but it's worked for her. I'll be looking for it when i go out today.

She also used something similar years ago that she ordered off the TV, she thinks it was by Carbona, but has not been able to find it again since. She did say it was much better than the Shout! product, but the Shout! does work, too.

Just looked it up and it's Shout! Color Catcher.

Also, I see Amazon has Carbona Color Run Remover, which may be what my sister used. they are out of stock right now, though.

Oh, stay far, far away from Carbona. I tried it once to remove a couple of spots from one of my daughter's tops and it removed *all* the dye. What started out as a purple top with a few darker sports ended up perfectly ivory. I was upset.

There are tons and tons of spots, most no bigger than the end of my pinkie. Most of them are on the inside, but there are a bunch on the front pocket, all along the back hem and all up the right sleeve.

I think I'll try an Oxy soak and then maybe get some color catchers (I didn't think they took dye out of fabric, though, just prevented from the water.) Then I'll look into the cleaners or dye it.

Don't tell me that! They had both at the store and I went with Carbona! It's in the wash now. I'm afraid to look!

Good old Spray and Wash has worked for me in the past.

Okay, results from Carbona on my daughter's dress...success! All black dye was gone, however, the dark brown was lighter. The dress still looks good and if you didn't know if was darker brown before, you wouldn't be able to tell.

I hope you find something that works for you!

Well, the Oxyclean soak got out some of it, but not all (and, unfortunately, not the spots on the front). So, when we get back from vacation, I'll have to move on to new options. I think I'll try Rit's color remover. If it removes *all* the color, I'll just dye it again! (the up side of that is..at least I wouldn't be limited to darker than original).
