The Anthropologie near me isn't hiring, but the one in NYC where my friend works is, and they are having open interviews so I think I'm going to go next week. I'm wondering, of course, what to wear! On one hand I obviously want to embrace the brand, but OTOH, Anthro tends to be more casual. How do I balance "Anthropologie" with "Professional"?

Maya, that's fantastic. I know you love Anthropologie clothes so I bet you'd like working there (I wonder what the discount's like?). London is getting its first Anthropologie shop soon, I think it's opening this week. I can't wait to check it out!

Hmm, I'm probably not the best person to dispense advice here because I don't have too much experience with Anthropologie, beyond my yearly trips to NYC. I would say go "Anthro" on your top half only, maybe with a pretty blouse, or some accessories? I think, paired with one of your pencil skirts (I know you have a nice black one, did you end up finding a microcheck/patterned one in the end?) and heels, that would be a good way to incorporate their look, while staying interview-appropriate.

But first, to Angie's point- what Anthropologie clothing do you have? Any accessories from there?

I actually just remembered that the green polkadot blouse I wore before is from Anthro. Totally forgot about it. It's from 2006 though. I don't know if that matters or not. I also have a Sweet Pea top that is from Anthropologie but probably not unique to it, a black Odille blouse with little vegetable-eating pacmen all over it (hard to explain, but super cute), and a couple of jackets but it will be too hot to wear either of them.

Ele, I wouldn't be able to do Anthropologie on the bottom, since I have no bottoms from there! I never did find a MC skirt. I don't think I'm going to find one that works for me. I wanted one that was similar to the CM pants, in that they were unlined and relatively lightweight. But it seems like that print seems to be more popular in the fall, in a lined wool or wool blend, which is not what I was looking for.

As for the discount, it's 40% off! A definite advantage. I love that store but I can't afford anything from it. Their clothes are perfect for my lifestyle and eventual career.

The green polka dot blouse would definitely work methinks. Did you wear it with a skirt and waistcoat last time?

I think I might wear the Pacman blouse. It is very structured and from a distance it looks like polkadots, but once you get up close you can see the little pacmen. That is unmistakably Anthropologie.

Do you (general you) think I can wear this with a dark denim skirt? Or is it too casual?

Love the idea of the packman blouse. Is it casual? Hmm. Not sure a denim skirt is right or wrong. But you could add those fab red kitten heels and cream cross body bag, AND headband.

Take some sort of jacket too.

I don't think it is casual but I could be wrong. I think I have posted it here but now I can't find any pictures. It's a woven black blouse with the pacman print. It has some slight gathering on the sleeves and a surplice neckline. Very vintage silhouette. It originally had pleats in the front but I had them removed. I'll try to take pictures of it on tomorrow. This is the only one I can find online:

The kitten heels really hurt last time so I don't think they're an option anymore Angie, if you still want them I'd be happy to send them your way.

I could also wear my MC pants. Will both prints work together though? Or should I stick to a solid?

Jackets are an issue. I only have a short sleeve jacket which I don't think will work over the blouse (the sleeves won't work together). Will a cardigan do? I also have the waistcoat but that would be a lot of black. Hmm.

That's a cute top, Maya! I think it would work for an Anthro interview. I don't have any ideas for the rest of your outfit. Only thought is maybe go monochromatic with some pops of color.

Sweet blouse! I like that idea. Hmmm. I think if you can wear heels with the denim skirt, you’ll be fine. Grey Mary Janes? Love the idea of adding the waistcoat and a colourful headband. Yellow bag?

I like the idea of the MC pants, but you’ll need to try the two on together to be sure.

Nertz, I can't see the blouse. (Anthro always redirects to its Euro site for me.) It sounds really cute, though. I love the idea of mixing the two prints and wearing your microchecks, how do they look together?

I'll take a picture when I have the time (busy doing some photo shoots). I am under the impression that in order to wear 2 prints together, either the scale has to differ or the color palette has to be the same. So a large print would work with the relatively smaller microcheck pattern, or a black and white print. Mixing prints is tricky for me so maybe this isn't the best time to experiment. I have some black slacks I could wear. The weather is actually unusually cool right now. Not cold, but not hot either. 75 or so (my perfect temperature).

Did I mention I would get 40% off at UO and Free People too? Seriously, 40% off UO would save me so much money...

Angie, what I really need more than anything else right now are dress shoes. Flats are good but low heels are even better. Looking at my shoe collection is really depressing, since almost everything hurts and none of it is even that fancy. So even though I like the Cons, I really have no need for them. But you can try the red shoes anyway, since I'm not going to be wearing them.

Nothing fancy. Just some stuff for my portfolio. I finally got an interview for a freelance job so everything needs to be in top condition.

I actually want to just get rid of most of my shoes. If they're not comfortable for at least four hours, they are of no use for me. Can't decide if I should sell or swap.

Thanks girls. The interview is on Tuesday, which also happens to be when Anthropologie holds its open interviews. I think I'll try to do both at once.

My friend gave me some sample questions that they ask at the Anthro interview. She said it's very laid back.

So now, if I do that, I'll probably have to overdress a bit for Anthro, since I'll also be dressing for the other interview (which is at a marketing company). I think I can still wear the pacman blouse but maybe with my pencil skirt instead. Yes/no?
