Another lurker saying hello - YouLookFab Forum

Hi all,

I've been a member for sometime, but have yet to post. I have to say I have missed being able to see everyone's fab outfits these last few days, so I'm happy to introduce myself and be more a part of this wonderful community.

I am a size 18/20 pear, and work as a retail store manager - a job which requires me to wear only black, white, or cream. This is a big jump from Gap, Inc., where I worked for the previous 7 years, where jeans and colorful blazers and accessories were my "uniform". I now find myself needing to spend more on my work wardrobe, but also find my at-home capsule oddly lacking.

I love to shop, and the fact that I work about 50 feet from the front door of a Nordstrom is doing no favors to my budget! My other style challenge is that I live in a climate that is quite warm year-round, which is can be depressing for this former New Englander, who loves fall/winter clothing so much! Feeling stylish during approximately 10 months of warm weather is not something I love.

50 feet from Nordsrom's?... then you have the opportunity to try items on and think about them for a couple of days or keep your eye on them to see if the make it to a discount rack.

I have the opposite problem wardrobe/weather-wise. It's so cold here in the winter - it's hard to be fashionable and warm at the same time! Looking forward to your knowledge about dressing for the cold!

Thank you for the kind welcomes. I love having Nordstrom so accessible, but the plus-sized department is hit-or-miss, so I do still order a fair amount online to try. That said, working in the mall 5 days a week makes returns a snap.

My style is mostly classic, but I love a bit of boho and rocker-esque touches. I'm a sucker for bold accessories and great shoes, but being on my feet all day requires less exciting footwear.

Since I've been reading YLF, I'm haven't changed too much in what I like and respond to the most, but it has been incredibly helpful in pointing me towards some favorites. Plus, I have become master of the purge and a lot pickier. For the first time, I feel like I may have too few clothes. However, I don't want to rush into buying replacements. Looking forward to learning even more!

Hi Brenn! I'm so glad all of us newbies are coming in together. Like you, I live in a climate of two seasons: hot and hotter. I came from the upper Midwest, and you're exactly right, so many months now without boots and layers and sweaters and coats, fashion-wise, really does get depressing and tedious. Can't wait to see you post pics and hopefully we can both find a way past that style hurdle!

She arise, I welcome any help on staying stylish in the heat! Last year I moved from Florida to Texas, which was no help! I've lived in climates from Norway to Indonesia, but I really miss a true four-season wardrobe. Being pear shaped, I struggle with shorts and don't love skirts for casual. I usually end up in shorts I don't like with a boring top on my days off and it certainly doesn't make me feel fab!
