Another dumb question - nail polish

I admit to painting my nails maybe a dozen times each decade. I'm better with the toes and do them about 4 or 5 times a year. Not a regular, you could say.
My question is, is it weird to have your fingernails painted and not your toes? I am thinking ahead to Thanksgiving and I want to do deep wine fingernails but wonder if my bare toenails will look naked in contrast. (it's FL and I will actually be wearing sandals so people will see my toes). If the answer is yes, that's weird, my next question is - will the same color on both look silly? If yes, (feels like a flow chart lol!) will a pale pinky lavender be fine for the toes?

I don't think it would look silly. I'm usually the opposite (my fingernails aren't painted but my toenails are). I'd go with what makes you feel the most comfortable.

Kristin, yes, I see just toes done more than fingers and somehow it looks okay. I guess I'm worried that the deep red fingers will *really* make the bare toes stand out by contrast. My gut tells me that matching the same color is not a good idea, though

I don't think its weird to paint your fingernails and not your toenails, if your toenails are not going to show. But, if they're going to show, I'd put a couple layers of polish on the toes too. If you are going to do your fingers in a deep wine, I'd consider doing the toes in a metallic silver or gold. I think that the pinky lavendar color sounds a little spring/summer to me! If you're not into the metallics for your toes, you could try a navy blue or a deep emerald green, or a dark taupe or gray. Any of those would look great with your wine colored fingernails! (I avoid matching my finger and nail polish - I'm just not a fan of having 20 nails all in the same color!) Another thing I sometimes do - is paint all of my fingernails except my ring fingers the same color, and then paint my ring fingers and my toenails the same color. For example, you could paint your fingernails sans your ring fingers the deep wine and then paint your ring fingers and your toenails metallic gold! Its fun to just let your creative juices flow and play with it a little bit! You can always take it off if you don't like it!

Thanks! I have exactly 3 nail polishes here, ahem, 2 of them I just bought last month. But it just so happens that 3rd one is a deep blue, so I could do my toes blue! The dress is an olive green, so I think all the colors would play together well?

I like to have my toenails painted, especially in Summer when they are going to be on show. I prefer them a different colour to my fingernails though.
I might give Marleys' suggestion a go next time- very creative!

It doesn't sound weird to me, but then I live in a climate where it's too cold for anyone to see my toes 10 months out of the year.
Olive green and deep blue sound like a beautiful combination.

I also rarely paint my nails and when I do it's mostly my toenails as I can barely get fingernail polish to last a day! If fingernails are painted and toes are on show I prefer painted toes too. IMO toes painted without fingers is fine but it looks unfinished the other way round. I'm no expert and my decision is probably only influenced by my beginning statement. I love love love Marley's idea of matching your ring fingers to your toes x

Mo I wear polish on my finger nails all the time:). And my toes are always painted in summer but not winter. When both are on show I generally don't like too much of a contrast but last summer I did wear a kind of candy blue on my toes nearly all season (I did not wear it on my finger nails) For the toes I like metallics, black, navy, reds. Really anything goes these days and the wine and deep blue sounds like it would work beautifully.

Why not just paint both? I don't like to match to my toes to my fingernails.
I am also not so good about painting my nails because I am washing my hands 800x/day but I enjoy it.

i paint my toes for me so sport nailpolish year round.

i do think fingers one, but not toes, curious, not bad just not the norm. also, i would do matchy matchy in a nontrad color like blue or grey.
