I ordered this dress from Macy's today, as it looks like my DD may choose the Botanical Gardens as her wedding venue. The wedding is planned for July, and it occurred to me that she may not want me in a long dress. This navy one looks weather appropriate, and can also be used for cruises if not worn for the wedding. Also, I think navy goes with a lot of colors, so it will probably blend with whatever wedding colors she chooses. I know this navy is not a SSu color, but since it has the tan color in the bodice and it's sleeveless, I'm hoping it won't overwhelm me.

It's a lovely dress! And it feels very wedding-appropriate. I love that it's sleeveless, and that, combined with the not-quite-halter neckline and subtle cutouts at the top make it not matronly, which I know is something I'd be looking for if I were the mother of the bride.

Yes, Berkeley Girl, matronly must be avoided at all cost. I don't know where I'll find some dressy shoes that will be comfortable enough for my fussy feet and still work outdoors in case I have to walk through grass or something.

I think navy will look fine on you but maybe, since it's sleeveless, if you're not completely satisfied you could balance it with something in addition.

I hunted for ages for a mid height silver wedge for the wedding I attended in Hawaii and really liked this one. It worked well on grass and I was able to wear and dance in for a several hours. It is a bit wider across the forefoot, and pretty true to size. I'm typically a 6.5W, and I got a 7 for more room for my D width foot. I think it is a Dillard's house brand. BTW I do not tolerate uncomfortable shoes!

Remember that your shoes may also need to be comfortable for dancing. I wore navy for DS's early August wedding a few years ago. It was a long dress that I had cut off to be knee length. The hard part was finding something to cover my arms in the church (the dress was sleeveless). If this is a concern, start looking early. I ended up with a multi colored silk scarf but wish I'd thought to have the bottom of the dress made into some sort of wrap or jacket. There was lots of fabric.

This is a very pretty dress - I like everything about it. Perhaps metallic block heel sandals so you don't sink in the grass?

Thanks! I've been on a show safari hunt, but haven't found anything. I, too, was thinking of metallic shoes with a heel that doesn't sink into the ground. I also want a non-skid sole for slick cruise ship floors.

Karen13, I couldn't pass up on ordering the silver sandals you posted. I, too, wear a D width. I always wear size 7.5D, so I went up a half size like you did. The shoes are on clearance and can't be returned, but at that price, they're worth trying. Besides, it's not like I'm going to be wearing them every day.

A lovely dress. I think Karen's sandal suggestion is great. I wish I'd persisted and found a wedge sandal for a wedding on grass I attended a while ago - my heels were sinking in the whole time.

I was walking through and sinking down into grass at my oldest DD's wedding, so I learned my lesson.

Yay - I so hope they work! I never wear dresses or heels, and didn't want a single purpose shoe. I looked forever, and was really surprised to find these at Dillards - the SA said they ran wider even though they aren't a wide width.

I feel like I can wear them with pants if the occasion arises - the silver makes them dressy and the rope detail adds a nice touch that can go either dressy or a bit more casual.

I simply hate wearing those strappy sandals that you always see advertised for weddings. They are so uncomfortable. I don't want my bunions to show, either, and I think the sandals you recommended will disguise them a bit. Did you see the clearance price on those shoes?

The shoes got here today. They fit perfectly, and I appreciate the padding in the insole. I did go up a half size to account for the width. They're good shoes for the price.

I like the flare and lenght. The lace top is gorgeous. I agree the shoes should work fine on grass or soft surfaces.

The dress got here last night. I haven't had a change to try it on yet, but the "tan" part of the dress is actually soft white, which is better for me. Also, they shipped it on a hanger in a garment bag, which was then placed inside a cardboard box. I appreciate that.

I can't wait to see the dress with the shoes and I'm stoked that the shoes fit comfortably enough (and you got a screaming deal!!).

I just remembered that I did successfully stretch the width of the Alex Marie sandal band across the forefoot a tad bit with a shoe stretcher, if you need a bit more room.

Fabulous shoes! The wedge makes them so much more manageable than a stiletto and the straps are very pretty and feminine.
