Another boyfriend jeans K/R: Kut from the Kloth Catherine

When I got the "Bardot" skinny BF jeans from the Rack (#2), I also got the Catherine pair (#1). I have to confess that I was going to return them without even posting them and possibly exchange them for a smaller size, as the legs are ridiculously huge on me - about 4" of extra material in the knee area. However, since Shannon asked about them and I do not trust myself when it comes to BF jeans fit at all, I figured I may as well post them.

Background info: I normally wear size 0/2. The Bardot jeans are 4, and YLF consensus was that they fit well, but are not slouchy enough for BF jeans. They are "skinny boyfriend" cut. Catherine jeans are size 6, and regular straight leg BF jeans. I tried size 4 as well ( no photo, sorry) and don't really know why I didn't get those instead - the fit is between #1 and #2.

So what do you think? Am I correct to think that this look huge on me and exchange for size 4?

Edit: I forgot to mention: #2 Bardot were posted for comparison only, YLF had already decided that they look good but are not slouchy enough to be considered BF jeans. Those are keepers, but will serve as regular cropped jeans.

Yeah, in my opinion the pair in #1 is a bit too big - I feel like these are more shapeless than slouchy, if that makes sense. I may be in the minority preferring a sleeker fit for slouchy pants, though.

#2 are not slouchy, but the fit is really beautiful on you.

I think my favorite interpretation of the boyfriend jeans trend I have seen so far is A's "girlfriend jeans" outfit on Academichic - I love the way that they are slouchy and oversized, but still show off her figure. http://www.academichic.com/200.....il-2009-3/

#1 is definitely slouchier, and looks dandy. If you feel good in them, keep 'em.

I think it's hard to adjust the eye after wearing less volume in jeans - the Bardot style looks fantastic but isn't really a boyfriend jean in the traditional sense. The Catherine could work but maybe the size down would be better? The leg looks like it tapers? Is that an optical illusion?

#2 looks like a great cropped pair of jeans, while #1 (higher rolled-up edition) looks like boyfriend jeans to me... but I'm really not very confident in the BF jeans arena.

I love the look of #2, but agree they aren't really boyfriend jeans in the baggy sense. I will watch this thread, because I want to know too!

Thank you very much ladies! I have edited my original post as I am afraid I wasn't clear enough - I posted #2 for comparison only and am really wondering about #1.

Kari expressed exactly how I feel about #1, and I do not feel good in them, so I do not think I will be keeping them unless I get really convinced. Actually, that photo she linked to is perfect, I wish I could find a pair like that.

I think you are just used to wearing close-fitted clothing, so the boyfriend esthetic is clashing with what you are used to. I think #1 looks perfectly slouchy but not sloppy. It still shows your figure, but is a more generous fit than #2.

#2 looks fantastic on you as well, but those are definitely cropped jeans, not boyfriend jeans.

Tanya, where are they really huge? On the waist of course - but you can have that fixed and belt! Models wear their BF jeans baggier than your version in #1. The Gap model I linked to yesterday for sure. To my eye, and in the photos, #1 looks roomy but right. They fit like BF jeans. I can imagine that they FEEL huge after wearing tight skinny jeans for a while.

#1 looks like how a true boyfriend jean is supposed to fit, at least in my head. I think you definitely have the body type to pull off the style although I know you are used to wearing more fitted pants.

I'd actually like to see them with the belt a teensy bit looser (so long as the pants do not fall off when you do that!) since I like the look when they are very low rise, just sitting on the hip bone. (This is what I mean by your having the perfect body type for this - my hip bones, for example, are too high so I can't achieve the super low rise, slouchy look).

Angie, it is not actually fit at the waist that is bothering me - they are too big there, but I get that that is the point. It is the fit around the legs, I feel like I am swimming in the material from knee below, like they are Palazzo pants. I have taken some extra photos here to show how much extra material there is - you can fit three of my calves in there. They are also lower on the waist per Diana's request. I guess I prefer the fit like the one Kari linked to, or like Laura's do. As I have already mentioned, Kari expressed my feelings much more eloquently that would be able to. Plus they are full length, and I have to roll them many times, and the cuff feels very bulky.

Thanks so much for posting this Tanya. I actually really like the Catherine's as BF jeans. For me, because I have much larger legs than you, the extra room in the thigh is actually perfect for me. If the Gap sexy BF jeans do not work for me, I'm going to give the Catherine's a try. For a shortie like myself, the issue will be hemming and possibly having to taper the bottom portion of the leg a bit.

I saw that, Tanya. I like the roominess around the lower leg, actually :). It looks fab! Thanks for taking the extra pics, btw. This is a great learning curve for the forum.

The bulk on the roll can be uncomfortable - I hear you. If you keep these, I vote hack some length off the hem and roll to the shorter version.

I got very scissor happy and hacked off the length of my long and leans - which are as baggy as these Catherines AND they have wide hems. Now they look like weird culottes - but I like them. And Greg loves them too - unexpectedly

I really like the Catherines on you, Tanya. The Bardots are great, too, but less like a BF jean because of the snugger fit. I'm going to give some BF jeans a try, and I can only hope to look as good as you do!

I love them, Tanya. These look kind of "retro" to me, too. You know, like Doris Day in a 50's movie. Like you've really borrowed your guys jeans, but they're a little too long, so you've rolled them up.

I love the first pair! If you're going to go with the BF look, you might as well commit to the whole slouchy factor, and you still look amazing and slim!

At this point I am fairly undecided. I have three weeks left till the expiration of return period. I will try to see if I can find something better in the meantime. If not, I will keep these, hack them as Angie suggests and maybe even have them tapered ever so slightly.

I like it the way you styled in #2. That's my style and thankyou for giving me some more ideas on styling boyfriend jeans. They have become an orphan in my wardrobe. And they were gift from my BF, so couldnot donate or give it away!!!

Tanya, I just had a thought. I wonder if it's the fabrication of these that is making them feel too bulky to you. It's hard for me to tell without touching the fabric but in the photos it looks like it might be a thicker, stiffer denim? I wonder if a thinner, softer, lighter denim might feel less bulky. I personally am looking for a summer-weight denim (preferably with no stretch) for my potential boyfriends.

Otherwise, I agree with Angie - chop away!

I think #1 looks great on you! Definitely has the boyfriend vibe, whereas #2 looks like a nice-fitting crop pant. I like the suggestion to shorten and taper a bit.

Tanya, thanks for the learning curve! I am a complete neofit for BF jeans but I also like the fit in #1 and would not mind them for myself.
