Another Black Moto - YouLookFab Forum

Happy Friday, ladies!

Last winter I bought a black mixed media black moto that I ended up wearing ALOT (shown in pic #1). It was barely cold, and the jacket served me well, since it isn't lined. And it can't handle layering either, because it's cropped and I can't fit a thick sweater underneath it.

I enjoyed the black moto so much, this season I decided to go in for the all-leather biker jacket. It's predicted to be a cold winter, and surprisingly, the weather is already turning here in India. Fall is almost upon us and I think this winter will require thicker layers! (Finally....after such a longgggg summer).

I love shopping for Fall/Winter before the season begins each year, as I've noticed that anything I buy on sale later never manages to stay a favourite by the next year. Thankfully, I had a ALOT of options in stores today!

I bought the jacket in #2 today at H&M. It's faux leather, and it fits GREAT! And while both these jackets are essentially black, I think I can still manage to do justice to both because I like to wear black veryyyy much!

I also wanted to buy a couple silver necklaces and picked out these two.

Would love to hear your thoughts/inputs/comments.

Black leather and silver. Umm. Sign me up. What I like is that it adds cool just putting on the jacket. But can stay girly or professional depending on the rest of the outfit.

I have been on the lookout for a (preferably) faux black jacket that is lightweight like your jacket in 1 for over a year. It doesn't get cold enough for me to need a heavy layer very often. But I need both wide through the shoulders and long enough for my torso. I'm not settling, and that's been a tough combo to find.

Great deal on the leather jacket. I too am looking for a real leather jacket although finding one is the problem. I hope I can find one without the sleeves being too long. Meanwhile, I do have a faux leather one that I can use for a while.

I would keep only if it is substantially different in weight than #1 and will be worn on different occasions. i think it's perfectly acceptable to have one that's lighter weight and snugger and one that heavier and allows for layering as they can be worn at different temperatures. But I wouldn't have them both if they could be worn interchangeably - then you are just splitting wears with two jackets that look very similar.

The leather jacket looks great...absolutely classic. Make sure the quality of the faux leather is up to snuff before you take the tags off. I've learned from my own pleather jacket that it will never soften and wear in the way a real leather jacket will, so you need to be okay with it as is.

I love all your choices. Does the faux leather feel as nice as your other one? That would matter to me, if it doesn't feel good I would be reaching for the first one. Love the necklaces.

While the H&M jacket is faux leather and very reasonably priced, I'm quite happy with the quality. And the fit. I saw 5 black faux leather jackets in their store today and gave them all a fair chance. This one stood out, and the SA later told me while I was billing it that it's been their top-selling item this season Coz of the cut, fit & fabric. In fact, it's the beginning of season and they were already out of it (I bought the second last piece). Despite being in the similar price range, the other jackets felt (and looked) cheap. The only other jacket I actually liked was only available in plus size range and I'm a UK 14.

Now, I do own a real leather moto jacket in brown that is about 10 times more expensive than this jacket. Yet - they don't feel much different. Not to me, Atleast.

Jenn - the fabric is soft. The black moto jacket is EVERYWHERE this season. Each store was offering 5 or more options. I did check other brands too but this H&M jacket surprised me...it's actually really very good....far better than faux leather jackets that are priced at twice as much.

Also, our winters are very short. I can wear a jacket for probably 3 months; no more. My winter jackets seem to last forever (because they don't get enough wear) and I still have jackets that I got 8 years back. They still don't look beat. The only jackets that do tend to show signs of wear are the quilted jackets I wear every single day for my walks, and that is because I wash them at home. That's about it. That's why a faux leather jacket is a great option for me. If I'm bored next season, I won't feel bad about passing it on at all.

@Delurked - the lightweight jacket in #1 is from a brand called Vero Moda. It's a great jacket for mild winters.

Nice. I wear my moto all the time....definitely got my moneys worth out of that. I was considering getting a brown one in a smaller size to wear with summer dresses so two can be useful depending on how much you wear them.

Smart of you to go for faux leather on a piece you know you will wear a lot, but only for a short part of the year. So many of us (read: me) get pulled into buying the 'best quality' for items that will be worn seldom or for a short time. If it feels and looks good to you, and you know you will only wear it 3 months of the year, then this seems like a great and sensible buy!

(Also - I hear you on liking what you but at full price at the beginning of the season more than sale stuff!)

Love your new black moto. I can see you softening it up with some of your pretty floral tops. It's funny bc I read this post yesterday and went and tried mine on to make sure it still fits (I have gained some weight lately grr). Fwiw it does and mine also has a shoulder detail which I think as a pear helps even me out. I noticed yours has some quilting around there, too, I think you'll like the details of the jacket. It looks more expensive than it was, that's for sure! And also I love your silver necklaces. I just added a layered necklace but mine is gold.
