Another attempt at an oversized sweater

The other day I posted a K/R of an oversized sweater that I ultimately decided was too dull and oatmeal-y in color to be flattering.

I know I don't have to hold strictly to my new Bright Spring color palette, but I don't want to deliberately add unflattering colors to my wardrobe either. So, I sent that one back. Besides being too dull a color, it was a man repeller. My husband gave it a funny look when I modeled it for him and said my neck and head looked "funny," like I was peering out of a manhole!

So, I hunted for a replacement that was brighter in color (ivory/eggshell are good colors for me) and perhaps a little less exaggerated in size. (It would have been nearly impossible to wear a coat over the other one.)

What do you think of this one from 525 America? It's got that oversized look, but slightly scaled down, and the color is much brighter.

I think it's great overall. Seems to fit you, looks cozy, nice color and looks good with pants and skirt. Does DH like this one?

The fit is much better than the other one. The shade is good. I am a spring as well so I know what you mean about shades of colors. I really like it with the pants but am not sold on the skirt with it. Vickie

I love the fabrication and the size, the nod to the fisherman. I love it with the pants. I am not sure about the turtleneck.

I agree with Glory, the turtleneck is throwing me. I also notice the inspiration picture has a more fitted look. I do not think it is a 9 nor 10.

Hmm. Glory and deb, I'm curious as to why don't you like the turtleneck. It's not nearly as big as the other one! Is it because it's not a traditional neckline for a fisherman's sweater, or do you find it unflattering? As for the Pinterest look, I'm not trying to replicate it exactly...just the vibe. I really have been in the mood for an oversized sweater, so I much prefer this one to the fitted one in the photo. I realize that oversized isn't everyone's cup of tea.

I really like this one, Nancy. Colour is so much better on you and the detail in the knit looks really nice. But I have to say I can't get over the seasonal confusion of the sandals and sweater thing. My crazy poison eye at work, forgive me....LOVE your other iterations!

Thanks, Suz. I think this one is a much better option, too. And I didn't have any other ankle strap shoes so I just threw the Okalas on to try to mimic the girl in the photo.

Nancy, it may be the fisherman style with the turtleneck. It could also be the shoes, I had not thought that may be throwing me off. I did not understand you were not trying to do an exact copy so please excuse that comment.

I don't think I'm going to much help, but I liked the style of the first sweater but the color of this one. I find that this new one is in between - it's neither oversized nor fitted. It is neither fashion forward nor traditional. As a spring, I find it very hard to find winter weight sweaters in spring colors. Have you tried Garnet Hill or Boden? Sometimes they have some good color options for springs in their winter collections. I saw this one yesterday - it's not cream but the blue might be nice. It's oversized but slimming.

Christina, I hear what you're saying about this new sweater not technically being oversized in the way the first one is....but the more I've thought about it the more I've come to realize how incredibly impractical a truly oversized sweater would be for my real life. There would be a very small window for wearing it anywhere out of the house--basically in the autumn when I didn't need a coat--and that probably makes it something more suited for a fashion spread layout than for a real person like me to actually wear regularly.

That said, you've made me stop and ponder whether I've truly come over to the not-so-oversized sweater team and am happy with this one, or whether I still want to consider the super oversized look and keep hunting for a bright ivory.

I like the cableknit detailing on the sweater and it's placement, I am interested on how you come to the fit decision... As I am trying to figure such things out for myself as well.

I am having the same issue with the practicality of an oversized sweater. I have recently purchased one but don't really have a proper coat to wear with it! I think that might be the reason for the new oversized coats we've been seeing. Even the new slouchy sweaters are going to be hard to fit under some of my more tailored outerwear.

My two cents on oversized... I think it is hard to do oversized and chunky knit. I prefer a more fluid oversized look like the Garnet Hill sweater I posted for Natalie (which comes in a tneck). They are like two variations on a theme in my mind.

I also feel like some part of an oversized item, at least on me, needs to be fitted - the sleeve or the shoulders - to avoid looking overwhelmed. I think you have the stature to pull this off but to my eye it's a lot of sweater. Chunky, cables, oversized... It's making you look a little disproportionate which I cringe to say as I know it's not the reality. And that was the same issue I had with the first sweater. Could be my own bad judgment - feel free to cyber-slap me!

I LOVE this sweater, Nancy. Opposite to Una I think oversized and chunky can go very well together if the look is intentional (but hey, I was a Gap chunky sweater lemming, the ultimate of oversized!)

Sveta is right, the Gap sweater worked well. Maybe it is just me being weird today.

And if you can bear with me I found a link of Sveta looking fab in a similar Gap sweater (which I own too in grey, go figure). Must be my eye needing to readjust.

I like this one! I tried a similar sweater in navy this past weekend and I REALLY liked it and wanted it to work. But the neck just felt too itchy and I knew it would bug me. So I will enjoy you in yours!
